True. But there is still the PDT rule to contend with. Unless the newbie wanted to start out with swing trading, he wouldn't be able to practice with 5K or 10K or even 20K. He might end up holding a losing position just to avoid the PDT rule and do a lot of damage to his account. Avoiding this...

Okay, most traders would fail to do that. Let me modify the question. How about someone who just wants to trade part time because he hasn't decided that trading is really for him, or he just wants to practice with small share sizes before he decides to really leap into trading. Wouldn't it make...

Well, that could be. What I had in mind is a person with who doesn't have the $25,000 required to satisfy the PDT rule. It would make sense for him to look to a prop shop with remote trading.

What if you're not looking to make six figures yearly? What if you just want to start out by trading part time and would be happy to just supplement your income by $25,000 a year?

Prop Traders at firms like Bright vs. MBF

I haven't worked with any prop shops yet, but it seems to me that unless you want big leverage, want to avoid the PDT rule, want training or the ability to work with professional traders, or if the prop shop you're interested in has lower rates, there is no reason to go with a prop shop. If...

What was wrong with the charting in Laser? Was it missing some important features, or was it buggy? Does it allow you to draw trend lines and Fibonacci retracements?

    Tradevision

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that I'm advertising for Trade Vision? I'm not. I'm busy investigating a number of prop firms right now. You can look through my posts to see this for yourself. Also, I too am starting to share your feelings for Don. He tells us that a firm might be...

What sort of information did you get from them? Were they willing to discuss their financials? Do they seem like the sort that would be open with that information?

Don, answer this question for me if you will. Why should a proprietary trading firm be a licensed broker-dealer, if it does not provide broker-dealer services itself? Of course you'd want whoever they hire to be their broker-dealer to be properly licensed and registered, but what does it matter...

    Tradevision

How do you know this? Yesterday, I tried searching the Web for information on prop firms to get an idea of how often they go under and couldn't find any information. Could you give me links to news stories about prop firms or a web site that has information on how legit most firms are, how...

    Tradevision

As I understand this, a lot of these prop firms are basically big pools of capital that traders use to make money, and these prop firms make money from commissions, software fees, and a cut of the traders' profits. It could make good business sense to outsource the actual broker-dealer part of a...

    Tradevision

I don't understand your objection. What does it matter if they are not a registered broker-dealer? If a firm is financially secure, reliable, and works with a very reliable broker-dealer, what is the problem? Please explain.

There was once a king on a Pacific island who lived in a grass hut. He was getting on in years and to compensate for his feelings of loss at growing older, he began to collect thrones. Each day he had his artisans build him a throne, each new throne more magnificent than the previous one, and...

    Guardian Trading

I'm interested in Guardian Trading too. Has anyone here worked with them? All that I have been able to find out about them, besides the info on their Web site, is that one of the people in charge there, Algernon Lam, used to work for HLV. I've heard a number of bad things about HLV in the...

    Recommend me a firm!

Who would you recommend for trading futures? I've never bothered with futures, because I've heard that they're a lot more dangerous than stocks. But is that true? Is trading an E-mini much more dangerous than trading a very volatile stock?

    Recommend me a firm!

Thanks for the info ziddey. I did some more research on Harmon, and saw someone complain that Harmon doesn't have a good short list. I want to be able to short all of the stocks I watch, so this would be a problem for me. Have you had any trouble shorting?
