Grinding it out, day after day

I have orders out to cover my positions if I'm not there. Either a target price a timeout or a stop.

Grinding it out, day after day

No reason, I probably just wasn't at my desk and missed some of the better moves. It's very rare that i am at my desk non-stop from open till close.

Grinding it out, day after day

I only use hard stops for swing trades. I haven't had any issues with the market trading through my stop and it not executing. If it was a legitimate move and my order should have been triggered, I guess I'd exit manually and find out what went wrong.

Grinding it out, day after day

Nothing interesting to report this week. My volume dropped off quite a bit and there wasn't much that caught my attention. The oil drillers provided some good opps, but I was not involved that much. +2500 gross for the week, 392,000 shares traded. Daily pl was +4, +3, -.5, -4. Was long...

    Best book on Lifting

Do you want to be STRONG and FIT or do you want to build a body with a certain look? I've worked out my whole life and recently discovered Crossfit and it's changed my whole outlook on training. Nothing will beat it for results vs. the time put in. It's the basis of many military, police and...

Grinding it out, day after day

I was doing that the last two weeks by selling spy puts. Had to take some stop losses along the way and ended up scratching on it overall for the month. It's mentally tough for me to take any sizable position in something like that if it's not a strategy I've put a lot of time into...

Grinding it out, day after day

+29k for the week, 840,000 shrs traded. Daily pl +10, +18, +2, -1, 0. Was positioned long for the big move up on Tuesday, and had some long swing positions working nicely and a spread I was able to put on last week with moderate size start to come in. May was my third best month of all...

Grinding it out, day after day

Actually my trading has not changed much at all in the last 4 or 5 years. All the same strategies, just more refined. I've had others I've tried along the way and abandoned or just don't have the time to execute.

I do have separate accounts at two different firms. Not for that reason, but it is a nice extra bit of insurance. I don't know if I'd have an account only for that reason. You have to keep it funded, and if it's to hedge millions of dollars worth of positions, that is not a small chunk of...

dang whats going on with the futures?

Nope. This is not the same setup as the big gap down last week. I was much more nervous about this one and don't trust it. Played a lot more conservatively.

Some better assumptions in those recent posts. First of all, as I've posted before, some people, probably new traders or those who don't trade equities, assume that stocks move tick for tick with the market. Simply not true. Mike is right, 50 individual long stocks worth X$ is not the same as...

Grinding it out, day after day

I think you guys are assuming something completely different from what I'm doing. Yes, today I thought there was a very good chance of a market rally from the open. But I don't just step up and buy 30,000 spy or $3M worth of stock and let'er rip. I have a system that I execute the same way...

Question about NYSE Market on Open

Anytime until the stock opens, even if that's after 9:30.

Grinding it out, day after day

No, it's certainly not. Believe me, I've had my share of being on the wrong side of the market. Yesterday I was up 20k until the market melted in the last half hour and I actually finished red. The equity swings can definitely be bigger when volatility goes up, but for how I trade it almost...

Grinding it out, day after day

Actually, surprisingly few big winners, just lots and lots of small to medium ones, and almost no losers. My best trade was USB off the open. Don't remember exactly but something like 5000 shares and up a buck within minutes.

Viva la Vix!! We knew the money tap was turned back on two weeks ago and today it was set to "gush". +151k for the week. 1.3M shares traded. Daily pl was +1, +25, +5, -1, +121. Best week since March last year. Today was my best day since Oct '08. Picture perfect setup this morning...

Grinding it out, day after day

+$18,000 for the week, 1,131,000 shares traded. Daily p/l +5, +22, +2, -2, -9. Monday with the huge gap up was by far my highest volume day of the year (not including my fat finger day). Things were very active but it didn't actually go well even though I finished green. I was as high as...

Grinding it out, day after day

It's some of both. Some strategies have strict rules covering entry and exit and I try to execute the same way all the time. Other ones are just gut feel, intuition, analyzing the situation on the fly. But in both types of situations I have gotten pretty good at just going through the motions...

Grinding it out, day after day

Sorry to disappoint, but it was pikerville for me today on that stock. Looked too dangerous considering the news and the history of the stock. I waited and went really small, just dabbling. Never saw anything that made me want to go in with some size. + SLD 500 TIVO 10.820 SMART 12:06:40...
