    getting serious: wealth-lab vs amibroker

Many people back test, but they use a wider selection of software than Wealth-Lab or Amibroker. The array of packages available is overwhelming, so it can take a lot of time to sort through the possibilities and find something suiting your near- and long-term needs. I have not extensively...

Conspiracy theory proven August 8, 2006. Class actions?

Which raises the question, "Who are our friends in the trading business?".

Will the Fed pause on Tuesday?

Each 1% rise in mortgage interest rates is equivalent to a 10% rise in housing prices when making monthly payments (30-year loan). If rates rise 2% and house prices drop 20%, the slight decline in monthly mortgages payments probably won't make housing more affordable.

A gift. Thank me after you get rich.

The cause for concern may have been obscured as this thread progressed ... The OP's initial post raised a couple red flags. Ironically, there is some chance the trade will work out okay (not great, but okay). I've not been able to get comfortable, though, to believe the OP has sufficient...

A gift. Thank me after you get rich.

If you are wrong, your OTM puts will expire worthless and "a significant %" of your net worth will be gone. Nitro is right. Your view of the macro landscape might be 100% correct, but people may choose to react in an "illogical" manner, pushing equity prices higher for a while. There are too...

I disagree. It may be close to where it started, but it's not been standing still.

    Crash is Upon Us

My long system was firing off buy signals on Thursday and Friday like crazy. One day, though, does not a trend make. It's too early to declare victory or defeat for either camp.

Correct. The effect may be most noticeable to position traders riding a long-term trend.

The good ol' Days of the stock tip

I have not been in a situation like you described. Consequently, I can only offer conjecture about the pros and cons I might consider while making my decision. If we ignore the potential legal implications, this may be similar to accepting a very large gift from a generous benefactor you...

    Earnings Growth BS

Yes, S&P 500 earnings will be up > 10% Q2 2005 to Q2 2006. The few press releases i scanned were silent about the comparative periods they used, leaving people the chance to draw their own conclusions.

    Earnings Growth BS

Yeah, > 10% is a stretch. Who is publishing that number?

How many years away are we from a no BS backtesting program?

Without the benefit of back test results, what benchmark do you use to monitor whether your system has lost its edge?
