    Professional Exchange Fees

I would strongly recommend against trying to hide the fact that you're a pro. The fines for getting caught are high and you will likely get barred from the industry for quite a while. I, for one, would hate to see my name in the weekly SEC action list in the Wall Street Journal. Is $150/mo...

    Bright Keeping Traders Money

All brokers make money on margin interest. Pro firms with higher leverage probably derive a good revenue stream from margin alone.

    IB not offering 4-1 margin!!!

I'm sure IB is just careful at this point. Given that IB makes money off of margin interest, I'm convinced that they at some point will allow traders with acceptable risk parameters higher leverage. If not, you can always move your account somewhere else.

    Millenium Ed. Vs. 2k pro

I strongly recommend win2000 over WinME/Win98. First of all, Win2000 is very stable in high load situations, while WinME/Win98 isn't. Secondly, Win2000 has significantly better performance for operations involving disk and network access. I have measured a difference of 5x for a...

    Traders: Health Insurance

If your an engineer consider joining IEEE. They have great insurances (Helth, life, etc.). Their group healthinsurance is fairly competitive when compared to purchasing insurance as an individual.

    Buyback

Buy-back announcements are often used by companies to deflect from some other issue in their business/financials. The hope is that the investors and financial press focuses on the "positive" buy back news. Many times the buy back does not have a specific time frame and the company will often...

    Mechanical or Intuitive

Your choice of trading approach largely depends on what works best for you. For both discretionary and systematic approaches you will have to create an approach/system you're comfortable with and one that has good expectancy given your risk levels. Personally, I have found I do better with a...

    Appian Hurricane vs Matrox G450/G550

I have the matrox 450 with dual head. Works great under Windows 2000. Great image quality.

Any good books on Elliot Wave?

emk662: I also read the Prechter book. I found it very unpreceise. For every rule he offers multiple exceptions, so found it impossible to "codify" his approach. That doesn't mean that it wont work for you, but I gave up on using elliot wave in a systematic way. There is a good introduction...

DATA VENDORS: Which one is the Best????

I use eSignal and find the quote feed very reliable. For charting you will have to find another program than what's provided. I use MetaStock Pro. Others recommend Ensign.

    IB improvements

I really miss a better account manager. I would like the account mgr to show: 1. point P&L 2. position size updated in real-time.

    Is this a virus?

Roger, It sounds like you have your own computers at home, so the only thing I can think of is what is called "AutoArchive" in Outlook. Go to Tools/Options and select the "other" tab. AutoArchive is one of the settings. At least thats where it is in my Outlook 2000. If you're on a...

NYSE To Trade QQQ, SPY And DIA

Gene, Thank you for your explanation of how the AMEX specialist works. I'm truly surprised that he still manually has to "touch" all orders. In the spirit of "WallStreet" (the movie): With outdated technology/behaviour like that I think it just a matter of time before they get eliminated.

NYSE To Trade QQQ, SPY And DIA

This is a good development, in my oppinion. My experience with the QQQ Amex specialist is not good. I did a couple of test market orders. Every time I got filled at the worst possible tick within the next minute. Several times it took 90 seconds to fill a market order of 100 or 200 QQQs. Other...

    April 1st?

Personally, I really like that IB have decided to focus on stable, fast and inexpensive order entry. I'd much rather have reliable order entry without Level II, charts, scanners etc, since those pieces are readily available through other sources (who specialize in provideing those services).

    Networking Question

mjt: Generally, it depends on the software you're using. With DSL or Cable modems you can often have multiple PC's connected with one external (WAN) IP address. This however, only means that you're sharing the modem. Each PC behind the modem/hub (i.e. in your house) still acts and behaves...

    losing

novembr: It is important not to focus on the outcome of individual trades - unless you you made a mistake, did something "stupid" or equiv and want to document it so not do make the mistake again. For me, I've learned to focus on daily/weekly profitability. I don't look at individual trades...

    New Trader: Journal

mc_a98: I'd recommend that you don't trade in July and August. Summer months are notoriously difficult due to lack of volume and (often) trend. My personal trading records indicate that summer months are the worst (for me), and I now only trade lightly in June,July and August. Actually, I...
