    Is scalping the problem?

And no sectors in play day after day. Thats the problem. You can't trade this little volatility.

    worldco going out of business??

I've seen a steady decline in volatility and day trading all year long. Friday all trading seemed to come to a halt. Its as if the "day trading financial system" is shutting down. Stocks stay in penny ranges for hours at end. Only to make a move on thin air and no volume. Even specialists...

    market orders on open

Can someone explain how option market orders entered prior to the open are executed. Is there one opening pring, or do the sells get executed at the bid and the buys at the offer? Is this a dangerous way to enter an order. I'm talking a small order like 10 or 20 contracts. Is it possible...

So when will this market actually get busy

I don't know why but all volatility is gone. What happened, i don't know. It was fine for 18 months, then just went away. How do you trade a stock that is in 30 cent range all day. How do you trade an s&p contract that is in a 2 handle range all day?

where did the large orders go?

If the big guys are splitting their orders up, how can we take advantage of this? For expample, If instead of them buying 50k shares in say two 25k transactions during morning trading, they are buying 50k shares via fitfty 1k transactions over a 2 hour period. I notice alot of stocks...

    K-1 Losses

it will be treated as a capital gains loss. You can decuct up to $3000 against regular income each year. If you have over $3k in losses it will carry over to the next year. Hopefully next year you will make money and you will get to decuct this years losses from next years profits. Happy...

where did the large orders go?

Anyone have an understanding as to why there are far fewer large orders in the specialists books than the past 2 years. Somehow volume is still pretty good by end of day. But all the prints are 100 to 2000 shares. Are these small orders arb trades that are bouncing back and forth? Or are...

    52wk high list

I havn't crunched the numbers, but i have a feeling i might be $500,000 richer if i never shorted stocks on the 52wk high list or bought stocks on the new lows list. I have this on my cardinal list of rules for day trading, but somehow in the heat of the battle i still often forget this rule or...

Why does it seem that good traders go to futures market?

I've always felt the advantage of trading stocks is that you have a bunch of different markets to choose from. There isn't an opportunity in every stock every day, but if i watch 100 stocks i can usually find a few decent opportunities daily. If i just watched 1 stock, or 1 futures contract...

Is there any reason why technical analysis would work

Technial analysis is the study of "what is happening" in the mkt. I believe the holy grail is this "What is currently happening will continue to happen until it no longer is happening". So basically TA tells you what is currently happening. A winning trader goes with what is currently...

    Anyone play china stocks today

Been along time since i've seen a reversal like this. I took 4+ points off of NTES and bagged a buck in CHINA. Long live the people's republic of china. I think i will celebrate with some cheap women and some Chinese takeout for dinner. Cheers.

    Are there options on SPY??

I can't find any options listed on SPY. I know there are SPX options, but i would think there would be options on SPY as well. Am i missing something?? Without out options on spy, it makes it hard for retail traders to write covered calls against the index. Funny, i see there are...

    Vix Under 20.00

A low vix does not signal a top. The vix can stay low for many months and even years. However a low vix often means its not a great long term entry point. But often a low vix is a GREAT SHORT TERM entry point. As long as the vix is low expect more of the same. I.E. very little danger...

    Market breaking down??

I sensed today that the mkt may finally be starting to break down. Great earnings all week and SPY's couldn't make any headway. Now bad earnings coming out and stocks getting hit hard. Alot of strong sectors broke down this week already (I.E. Home builders and health care). SOX hasn't yet...

    NYSE Auto-Execution Restriction?

5 cents is ridiculous. I could see 25 cents so as to keep people from getting screwed by paying too much. But having a 5 cent rule which is less than the spread often is just plain stupid. I guess they want the specialists to be able to front run even more.

Can this market get any more pathetic

Its been like this since Febuary i'd say. Sadly its down for the count and appears to not be coming back. An active session lately has less zing than the slowest holiday session of last year (and this is no exageration). Most days are completely themeless. The sector game is all but...

How low can the VIX go??

25 is a key level to break as well. That is the upside of the current range. I will want to be out of the mkt when the VIX breaks above 25. A move above 27 (previous double bottom support on the vix, now overhead resistance) would signal real short term danger. Any move in the vix...

How low can the VIX go??

A low VIX simply means the markets are calm. They can remain calm for many months or years. Best advice is to not try to anticipate when the VIX may breakup. It could be 3 months, 6 months, or even 18 months away. I'm waiting for the VIX to break above 27 to get bearish on the mkt.
