How to blow up your account

I always place my stop at the point where I know absolutely positively that I am wrong about the trade. Doesn't brother me to take a loss from that kind of stop. (Unless, of course, the stock reverses big right after taking out my stop! ).

Would anyone like to give me a computer?

Don't forget to use your permenent eraser software to clean the old hard drive. Don't want to give away those account numbers and passwords, do we? And don't forget that porno is illegal in some states and can get your Johnson chopped off in some nations.

    Steely Dan, Trading

He don't hang around with the gang no more He don't do the wild things that he did before He used to act bad Used to but he quit it It makes me so sad ‘Cause I know that he did it for me I can see His heart His heart is out in the street He don't comb his hair like he did before He...

what got you into trading ??

My father, who is a farmer's son, did some commodities trading. But he was an emotional trader, and since it was before the advent of the PC, he had to work through those shifty churning brokers. He had to stop because he got headaches and aggravation out of it instead of money. This whole...

    Sucker plays

Don't you limit the number of shares by how much of your account should be allocated to a single stock? Tony Oz's calculator limits me to having only 25% of my equity in anyone security. That's a protection against a trading halt that could gap the wrong way after the halt. Also, do you...

    who watches 24?

The first episode of the first season immediately killed my intrerest in it when they had an antagonist blow up a plane load of innocent people. That's "entertainment" I can do without.

A distraction at key moments... any counters?

    most bizzare

Oh yes! How could I have forgotten subgenius? And Mr. Slack himself, Ol' Bob. I first encountered the zonpower nonsense in a mass mailing when it was just calling itself Neotech and was basically a form of cheating at cards. There is a curious expose for the curious at...

    Sniper Terrorism

Yeah, I don't think he's an Islamic terrrorist. Here's my take. 1.) The "Mr. Policeman, I'm God" tarot card business. That "I'm God" stuff is more characteristic of an American or at least a Western young guy, say teenage to late twenties. 2.) If you look on any maps of where the...

    Why I trade

Because all other jobs out there make we wanna puke. Although I will say that I seem to have dropped out of the rat race and into the snake pit.

    Russian Mail Order Brides

Sir, the flip side of that is that Russian women tend to be very abusive of their male offspring, thus prepetuating the cycle. A while back ago I read a New Yorker magazine about just this very problem. If you get serious be prepared to deal with that.

    failed market wizards?

The last biography of Jesse Livermore I read was the Smitten one. According to Smitten Livermore just plain loss interest in life once he successfully shorted the 1929 crash. Apparently felt he couldn't top himself after that. And too, the new SEC rules then imposed may have taken a lot of the...

Latest beta of Quotetracker handles IB feed.

Thank you, sir. I guess that should have been obvious from looking at IB's current quote screen. And may I say that it is quite a service you are providing with your software. It was quite frustrating to see a real time feed in IB's quote screen and yet not get a real time chart.

    Problems with IB stop orders?

I don't know about that. On smart routing for NYSE I saw the price go through my stop during the middle of daylight market hours and I had scramble to cancel the stop and get the limit sell off. I thought it was fluke. I will pay close attention to this and post if it happens again.

Latest beta of Quotetracker handles IB feed.

I just discovered the latest beta of Quotetracker, as of yesterday, handles datafeeds from Interactive Brokers. I seem to get price but not volume data out of it, though. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong. http://www.quotetracker.com/

    paper trade log

Have you looked into Interactive Brokers? (I do not work for them). Do a search on IB on this site. Very informative. In fact do any kind of web search on IB. A two way on 100 shares is only $2.00. Only drawback is that they sometimes have outages. (Make sure you use always use stops when...

    Stan Weinstein

I kinda figured that might be the case. I've had a few quick stop outs already lately using other methods. I remember reading that Vic Sperandeo did day trading when markets got choppy. Hope we ge better days soon.
