    excuse my ignorance here, but "fat-tails" are in essence distributions that do not fall to near-zero at their extremes? im very interested but this is a little over my head... if you could answer or point me to an answer somewhere i would be grateful - thanks

    agreed on all points above... essentially if you see a limit order matching the price you want, go ahead and try to route to it, but in almost all other instances you are better off going through ARCA which seems to do the best job in routing out.

    i once worked at a daytrading firm where i personally saw the head trader lose > 100k on at least 10 different days... never won more than 75k... obviously the whole outfit tanked. what an idiot!

    hmm... sounds like you are suggesting that i should lean towards something like amibroker (which is more powerful overall from what i have read) as opposed to wealth-lab and just suck up the difficulty factor... ? thanks again!

    i am ready to back-test my system... it seems like amibroker and wealth-lab can both do what i need... which should i choose? any other packages that can do good backtesting with candlestick-based strategies? i will be learning the programming slowly but surely... im not pressed for...
