Fixing this crisis and future ones.

Yes, seems like most responders to your post missed the point. You are recommending a solid, stable framework under which these recent excesses would not have been possible, i. e., don't blame Greenspan, blame the system that gave him the power to have such an impact. Our banking system is a...

Thanks very much, Nazzdack.......exactly the info I was looking for. I guess we could save the commissions if you arrange the appointment for free....but I guess I will go ahead and try the big contract, GE. Stosh

No, I'm not from Kentucky but I like Jim Bunting....and I already trade ES. Just thought I might try YE ....... but apparently it is not popular here or perhaps it doesn't exist anymore.

    Can't get YE ??

I'm new to int rate futures. I have read that there is an E-mini Eurodollar contract traded on ecbot. I don't get any market data for it on my IB TWS platform, day or night. Would appreciate someone informing me about this. I do get data on the large Eurodollar contract on...

How do you tell people your an E-Mini trader?

I remember someone posting this a few months back: tell them you are an intraday liquidity provider, or if you trade outside regular hours, that you are a nocturnal liquidity provider.

    My take on futures scalping

Sounds like a good plan if you can stick with your game plan. No matter what you evolve into later, it is great experience.

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

I remember those things. Not only were prices skyrocketing, there were lots of shortages in materials: sheetrock, cement, roofing, etc. Since the definition of inflation is too much money chasing too few goods and services.......inflation could have partly been due to less production...

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

Yes, spent 6 years at UT in Austin: BBA and MSCE. Also attended UT Arlington and TCU. Of course, I was exaggerating.....there were some good profs, especially in engineering school......seems like a cushy job though. They use grad assistants to do a lot of teaching and grading. Also...

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

I was taking those courses in the '70s.......from professors who didn't have a clue either. They thought our problems were due to capitalism.

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

RiceRocket: Very interesting perspective......I'm going to have to mull it over. No question that oil is probably the most important asset in the world.......it is like blood to the body. I wish the new administration would make an effort to move us more to natural gas.

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

Do you think they will have the cajones to pull in the liquidity at the appropriate time??

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

It's beginning to sound like it was a "perfect storm": 1. Viet Nam war 2. Great Society programs 3. Oil shortages 4. Decoupling the dollar from gold 5. Union contracts I presume the Fed was accomodative in those days, too.

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

Thanks, I had forgotten about the oil embargos and oil price spikes......another similarity to today. And true, unions were much more powerful in those days.

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

Thanks lrm21.......I lived through that period but was too young and stupid to know what was going on, but it was a rough time. Your analysis makes sense to me and would seem to have some similarities to today. Hope we get some other comments?

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

The chart reminds me that they used the terms "cost push inflation" and "stagflation" in describing this period. I'm interested if economists today have any consensus as to what might have been root causes of this. I don't know but I would guess it was the spending of the '60s????? Other...

    Any clue in '70s inflation?

Does anyone here know enough economic history to inform me as to what most economists think caused the inflationary period of the '70s? I'm trying to find some correlation to today's situation. I would guess, but don't know, that it was mostly the result of spending on Viet Nam war, LBJ's...

Ben Bernanke is a Huge Lunatic Paranoid Money Printer -MegaInflation Coming

In simple terms, the way I understand the theory: There has been a drop in private spending and bank lending, so the government steps in to offset the drop......then when the private sector comes back the gov't will pull back their part. The rub comes in on the pulling back part........this...

'Atlas Shrugged': From Fiction to Fact in 52 Years

Thanks for the link. I listened to the full hour.....I think I will temper my criticism of him in the future. But not my criticism of the system that puts such power in the hands of one man. Human beings are just not smart enough, and if you ever find one that is, he will be succeeded by...
