Is my money safe at Interactive Brokers ?

pigifan, they issued a statement regarding the issue. they said they did spread the assets in a way they consider the most safe solution available. (I don't think they have much $$$ at JPM) Petterfy is a very clever guy and he certainly sees the risk with C, JPM ...

FED directed 7 day "banking holiday"....what would you do?

I thought of this already 2 weeks ago. They should have done this earlier, no kidding. Close everything and discuss USEFUL measures. IMO they should declare all existing CDS void.

    Merrill Lynch Arb Play?

I don't think BAC wants to acquire MER. The merger announcement was a desperate measure by FED/BAC to gain some time and the market sees easily through this. The spread has been strange since day 1

Germany/Eurozone: FULL Short Selling Ban soon likely

Hey, Germany's &$&%/&% P. Steinbrueck wants to law out short selling soon. Appropriate laws are in the making. Would most likely lead to a short selling ban accros Europe. Will these people even watch the current market ? So that, even with their obviously limited intellectual...

    crisis real solution

that 700bln package is BS. a far more radical approach is needed, could look like this: - declare all existing CDS void, by law - force ALL banks, by law, to start making markets in ABS / CDOs from, e.g. Oct 15 00:00, with fixed spread rules and quote sizes according to the size of the...

Bail out + Short ban = 4 year lows

The markets are way smarter than anyone of us or the gummint. Keep this BS away. You should tell anyone, that pseudo-socialism will not work

Hi, may I ask you what your data source is for that long term TED data ? I have only 5 years of history, unfortunately.

    Bac ; Mer

Anything new on the issue ? Correlation / share prices say, merger won't happen, period. On the other hand, it's theoretically possible that correlation is significantly impaired by shorting ban regulations, but I do not think that's the case.

Very well done, Interactive Brokers !

I read here now about the stop orders issue. Ok on that. I use only limit and marketable limit orders transmitted via API.

Very well done, Interactive Brokers !

Everybody can complain, but nobody seems to give credit, where it is due: IB was (is) rock solid for me during the recent market turmoil. Both market data and trading did not suffer from complications, except one or two "could not value contract at this time", which I know well from past...

Effective Monday, stocks with market cap under $100M will be non-marginable at IB

C'mon guys. We talk 100MM market cap, not volume/day, all these stocks represent less than 5% of total exchange volume.

    Transaction tax

And furthermore: What about the (most likely) large profits, that BAC, C and the likes will write after, e.g., 2015 ? They just needed to seize these future profits for as long as the current expenditures are not compensated !

    Transaction tax

You need to make clear in your writings, the law will only hurt retail investors, not even closely the ones who "created the mess". Think of an better-average US family guy who actively takes care of his portfolio: Portfolio value: $100.000 Assume, he turns his portfolio every 2...

Tax on Trades Should Be Part of Rescue Plan, Some Democrats Say

A few countries have it. .15% - .5% in most cases. BUT BELIEVE ME, THE OUTCOME WOULD BE: BANKS ARE EXEMPT, MM FIRMS ARE EXEMPT, LARGE FUNDS ETC ARE EXEMPT. SMALLER TRADERS: PAY

Tax on Trades Should Be Part of Rescue Plan, Some Democrats Say

LOL this is fucking ridiculous! WHAT about EURODOLLAR futures? US Bonds ? (Futures) ??? No matter what, banks would be exempt, for sure !!! In the end private traders would end up paying, not banks. FIGHT THIS INCREDIBLE BS!!!

When The US Changes from Oil to Nat Gas for Vehicles

LOL how stupid is that HAHAHAHA as soon as it reaches some mkt saturation, the average price (gap) will converge to crude oil based fuels. what you NEED, is a reasonable solution for personal transport instead of 2 ton vehicles. see india. you get my point
