Can they push the S&P 500 down to 1500 by the end of March?

S&P Futures IMMEDIATELY limit down -5% as soon as they opened tonight. Yep, this bitch is going to 1500 by the end of this month.

SP500 back to $3300 by end of month

I'm thinking 1500 SPX by March 31 is very possible.

    Pattern Day Trader Margin Question

So just to make sure I understand, day trades using margin where you buy and sell on the same day are never charged margin interest since you sold by the end of day and aren't holding overnight?

    Pattern Day Trader Margin Question

Thanks. I have another question...if I buy SPY using margin at 9:45 AM and sell at 10:15 AM the same morning, am I charged interest for the full day on the margin I used, or just the portion of the day (30 minutes) I used the margin to trade with?

    Pattern Day Trader Margin Question

So the T+3 doesn't matter at all with determining my buying power?

    Pattern Day Trader Margin Question

If my broker identifies me as a Pattern Day Trader, that means I can have 4 times the excess minimum maintenance margin requirement of $25,000. So if I have $60,000 cash in my account, my buying power is (60,000 - 25,000) x 4 = $140,000. Does this mean I could buy $60,000 worth of an ETF on day...

Is Generation Y the worst generation ever?

Do you think Generation Y (people born from 1980 to about 2000) is the worst generation ever? Hollywood screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (born 1961) seems to think so. I was watching the pilot of his new show "The Newsroom," and this is the opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55SEO9Cn9rs...

Do ETFs always take 3 days to settle?

When you sell an ETF does it always take 3 days to settle, even if you had held the ETF (with no trades) for years? What about buying an ETF? Does the buy always take 3 days to settle? What about mutual funds? Do those take 3 days to settle as well (buying and selling)?

Question about High Frequency Trading (HFT)

Could you explain a little more? Are you saying the guy in the OP is correct and HFT can't move the S&P 500?

Question about High Frequency Trading (HFT)

I was chatting with a guy on a trading message board about high frequency trading (HFT) explaining that HFT can move the market (e.g. the S&P 500) in an illiquid market, and he says "My point, which still stands, is that HFT has zero impact on moving the S&P 500 index. By definition if HFT was...

What's stupider: Elliot Wave or the idea Gold will equal the Dow again?

They're both retarded. Every Elliott Wave technician has a different "wave count," and it was absolute complete coincidence that the Dow equaled the gold price in 1980. 1980 is also the ONLY time ever that the Dow has equaled the gold price (not that pre-1970 matters anyway since we were on the...

Anybody used Investopedia for paper trading options?

Has anybody here used Investopedia for paper trading options? Does it correctly compute your option gains and losses? To me, it seems like it's inaccurate on there, but maybe I'm wrong.

Question about 3 day settlement rule

I'm a little unclear about the 3 day settlement rule with short term trades. Normally when I buy a stock and hold it 3 days and sell, the funds are available immediately. So wouldn't a stock I bought yesterday and sold today have the funds available Thursday (3 days after buying)? (I...

Huge Volatility Drop at 11:02 AM?

It's not a bad print because even the official CBOE website says the low of the day was 13.45: http://www.cboe.com/DelayedQuote/SimpleQuote.aspx?ticker=vxo

Huge Volatility Drop at 11:02 AM?

I'm looking at the VXO chart (volatility index similar to VIX except it tracks the S&P 100 options instead of S&P 500 options), and there was a huge volatility drop to 13.45 at 11:02 AM. This drop only lasted a few minutes, then it spiked back up to the 23.6 level. What could have caused this...

VIX opened at 38 this morning

And immediately dropped. Is this a bad print? Or is it fear at the open rapidly dissipating? It lasted just a couple minutes, it appears. VIX 38 at the open seems weird when the market opened very close to yesterday's closing value. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=%5EVIX
