    Newbie Futures Discount Broker Question

IB offers all the exchanges except the NY CSC (coffee, sugar, coca) However you can trade coffee and sugar through LIFFE. With the LIFFE being a electronic your probably better of with trading there anyways.

Question Regarding West Texas vs. Brent Spread

I would be careful with that spread right now. NYMEX crude is for Louisiana delivery meaning that the very warm Gulf of Mexico could add a lot of volatility to the futures price. I would look to trade this spread through the winter months when the seasonal dynamics are roughly the same (it's...

    lean hogs VS live cattles

I agree, the ags in Chicago are not ready for out of the pit trading yet. If I had to trade ag's I would look to LIFFE. Coffee trades about 30,000 contracts a day and commissions with IB are reasonable.

Feasible for pro firms like IB to have "flexi lots"?

NHL CBA deal almost done, what stocks will benefit?

Just be careful to see where the income trust sits in terms of right to the cash flow. Often with income trust on restaurants the holders of preferred shares will have first claim on cash flows. Only once they are payed does the income trust unit holders receive distribution. I don't know if...

Feasible for pro firms like IB to have "flexi lots"?

Of course the commission free glorified spread betters will happily scalp you for an amount of money you are willing to put up, $10 or $1,000,000.

    Break-even trading

If you want to make a lot of trades here are a couple of strategies that I have used. I used these strategies to make money, not expressly for making lots of trades to get market data. 1) Use QQQQ options to create a delta neutral backspread. To do this sell an out of the money call and use...

Delta Neutral strategies not for retail trader?

I would recommend that retail traders readjust delta by using the underlying instrument when trading US Equity options so that they can have limit orders out on both sides of the market. For example if you have a delta neutral back spread at ratio of 2:1 you can place limit orders at about where...

    stop losses are for loooosers

The reason that I use a synthetic call instead of buying one outright is that the underlying instrument is usually much, much more liquid than the option. This gives me the the chance to trade during congestion effectively instead of needing a run to get out of a illiquid option position.

    stop losses are for loooosers

I have been trading for years and have never used a stop loss order. Instead I prefer to buy options to limit downside. This prevents getting shook out of positions because of "evil market makers gunning for my stops" or other trader excuses.

High interest rate money and easily accessible - where?

If you want liquidity you just get the farmer to write a cheque from the line of credit. You would have to pick a farmer with lots of available credit in comparison to what you deposit.

    Stelco going to zero

Does anyone know a broker who has stelco class "A" available for shorting? Their court protection expires in two weeks and the stock should go to zero. I already checked IB.

High interest rate money and easily accessible - where?

Here is a bit of and outside-of-the-box idea. Find a farmer with an operating line of credit and a good asset to debt ratio. Offer to pay off part their line of credit in change for them paying you the interest at prime -1/2 instead of the bank at prime +1/2. In Canada and the US prime is 4.25...

    Eurex to launch FX futures!?

I didn't mean to knock IB but I really caution anyone trying to trade QM with IB or any other broker. It is just not a good contract. I am knocking NYMEX. They will never accomplish anything great with half measures like that.

    Euro FX Short Strangle

Prevail, I guess I lost track of this post To answer you question I have had months of where I never risk more then $700 with this strategy and have made $1300. The numbers look better close to expiry(risk $200 and make 3 ticks or about $90 in a day). Overcoming Theta is a big concern...
