Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

Yeah I've already established to myself that my system works quite well and am way beyond trading one contract. I'm just trying to optimize the money management part (maybe using Kelly Criterion if it can be applied to futures) Needless to say, it might be impossible really because the...

Is there a way to see how volatile the eminis are going to be on a given day?

Yeah, that's what I've been doing pretty much and I figured as much. Thanks.

Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

Well when I said the same rules, I meant that I use the same technical strategy every time. The stop loss is based on a very specific technical event happening but as a backup in case the market suddenly unexpectedly crashes on me without any warning, I use the 10 point stop loss. My...

Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

What you just mentioned is the hardest thing for me when it comes to trading. When the daily vix is around 25 or higher I look for a 10 point gain but when it drops to say 20, it's hard to figure out what I should adjust the target to. Do I make it 20% less or what? Typically I've just said...

Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

Sample size is 67 trades (Very selective) and yes I have a documented record of everything. (dates, gain or loss, etc) I do the same exact thing every time as the trades are based on a strategy. I understand that the sample size may not be that big but then again what are the odds that I...

Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

Well, I'd have to have 6 losing trades at -10 points in a row before I'd be cleaned out doing that. If 80% of my trades are profitable, then the odds of me losing 6 trades in a row are .000064 or 6.4 in 100,000 or 1 in 17,000 roughly. As I make money and go higher, the odds of being cleaned...

Determining optimal # of contracts to buy when daytrading emini S&P 500

Assume that you have a $10000 account. Your broker allows you to daytrade 1 emini S&P 500 contract for as little as $1000. How many contracts would you buy assuming you average 80% winning trades with an average gain for winning trades of 5 points and an average loss of 5 points with 10 points...

You'd be nuts to be using $500 dt margins in this market.

Is there a way to see how volatile the eminis are going to be on a given day?

For example, with the emini S&P 500, some days it seems like the average move over 15 minutes is 2 points. Other days, it's 5 points. It would be nice to be able to figure this out so I can make accurate stop loss projections instead of relying on the Vix.

    E-mini tutorials?

I agree $300-$500 margins are insane The S&P 500 only moves maybe 2 point on average in 15 minutes. At $1000/contract, that's 10%. Not exactly mind numbingly risky.

    E-mini tutorials?

Hi Dan, I suggest you go here: http://www.easypick.hostzi.com/eminiarticle.htm This will give you the info you need to trade the eminis. As for brokers, I recommend Go Futures. You can trade with as little as $1000 and their commissions are the lowest I've seen.

    E-mini trading system

I may be wrong but I don't think he is selling the system but rather he is offering real time alerts based on the system he uses.

    E-mini trading system

I don't know why your internet security is saying that. Usually my Mozilla Firefox warns me if a site is unsafe or not as well as my virus protection. I think that's standard language on most investment sites.
