    "Verified profitable" badge

I agree most on trading forums are pretenders. It's been like that since the beginning of time. Showing 1099s? Not a bad idea albeit I prefer monthly statements. In my case 1099s wouldn't be very indicative. My taxable account is small six figures (where 1099s are generated) while by IRA...

I'm looking for investors who want me as their trader

    >>I only have a small 4-digit-account and it takes too much time to bring it to a substantial size. <<< Doesn't everyone here have at least a small 4-digit account? Saying it takes too much time to bring it to a substantial size is very telling. I hope you aren't that guy from another...

Successful traders: why don't you move to a 0% capital gains tax country?

This is a long thread so maybe this has already been mentioned. The key to wealth accumulation is the tax free compounding of capital over time. As such, any valid trader or investor would have an IRA account and place as many trades as possible in such account. What seems to be lost here is...

Any successful Traders among them all?

Nice insights so I obviously agree wholeheartedly. I've always felt the more indicators you use (one is too many) the further away it takes you from what pure price action is telling you. So to me there is no science or left brain thinking needed or required. Of course easy for me to say...

Poll: What instruments do you trade and why?

Even though I average around 500 to 600 trades per annum among my three accounts - a taxable and two IRAs, according to this poll I must not be a trader since my trading tool of choice are open end equity and bond mutual funds. That's because of their persistency of trend and lack of...

    Luck vs Trading

I've always considered myself the luckiest trader around. Lucky because I was at the right place at the right time to exploit the 80s and 90s in equity funds and then even luckier to be able to exploit the bond mania that followed. Then again, luck only comes to those who take action.

Starting a fund / raising capital

Great returns the past few years. I didn't check to see if I have already posted in this thread but you do know hedge fund returns over the past 20 years or so are around 11% to 12% per annum. And even lower since 2008. That's actually an overstatement because it doesn't account for the funds...

    Gary Smith challange, any taker?

I never said *anything* about giving up a trading system, just three years of monthly trading statements as validation. Long, long ago I was a part time trader in the stock index futures and sold a daytrading manual. With the manual I sent anywhere from 7 to 10 years of real money monthly...

If you hold overnight positions/swing trade, how do you hedge against gaps up/down?

I am a small time trader. I don't rub anything in the face of little traders. When I use to daytrade stock index futures I always kept my account under $10,000 drawing out the profits on a regular basis to build up my equity and bond fund trading accounts (all cash) All in all, since I...

If you hold overnight positions/swing trade, how do you hedge against gaps up/down?

Unlike when I had a smaller account, average annual return is meaningless to me now. As your account *compounds* over the long haul it obviously takes a smaller and smaller annualized return to generate a large dollar return. One of the perks of getting older and being in the game a long time.

If you hold overnight positions/swing trade, how do you hedge against gaps up/down?

I don't believe in margin unless you are just starting out and have a four figure account. According to you I am an investor, even more so if I told you I only trade open end equity/bond funds. This year (a typical trading year) I will make about 500-600 trades spread among three accounts. I...

    are we in a recession?

If we are in a recession someone better tell the junk bond market, a market especially sensitive to recessions. The Merrill Lynch High Yield Master II Index, the proxy for junk bonds, made an all time historical high yesterday.

    Day trading difficulties

Since my name was referenced in the enclosed article some may find it interesting that I haven't daytraded since the 90s. And of my total profits over the years, less than 4% came from daytrading. I guess the moral here is we evolve as traders as our account size compounds over time. I have...

How much do I need to make to be a trader?

Yeah right. Below are some stats from the latest census. I would say a home-based trader making between 100K and 200K annually is nothing to sneeze at, especially if you are single. Even more so if you are financially prudent enough to be debt free. >>>>According to the U.S. Census Bureau...

How much do I need to make to be a trader?

Unless I am missing something your percentage return chart is useless without knowing the capital at risk. To state the obvious, with a smaller account, percentage return is much more relevant than with a larger account. That's because if you can compound your capital at a heady percentage...

Trading for a Living: Present & Future

Good point. My IRAs were established when I was a part time trader long ago and had earned income from other sources. I assume though if you claimed trader status that would give you income that could be used for an IRA. But I also assume in that case you would be liable for paying self...

Trading for a Living: Present & Future

Trading for a living, as in paying the bills, is not even half the battle. Someone who truly trades for a living is ever mineful of a future retirement and at least for me, continually building up my IRAs through trading is an integral part of the game. And after all, the greatest wealth...
