    Two beginner questions about futures:

    1. Where can I find the agreed upon buy/sell price for a futures contract on completion? For example, the farmer and buyer of Wheat agrees on a contract of $4 per bushel by June. The fluctuation of price is absorbed by speculators. Where can I find this "$4", in other words, the agreed upon...

Need Historical HLC Data on Wheat in Excel

Think or Swim gets it, then organizes the data into charts for me. I want get an Excel spreadsheet of High/Low/Close data for, let's say, the Wheat contracts of 2009. How can I do this? I am a newb to programming for Futures. If the above problem is my goal, how can I achieve it? Perhaps...

What are good resources and books?

Wow, thanks guys. Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I've read your posts and it's very helpful. As an update, I started trading grains. I made some mistakes, lost some money. After making an adjustment to how I fill orders, I've made 14000 USD in the past month, so things are looking...

P&F definitely interests me. However, how does one even get P&F charts without manually drawing them? In particular, can ThinkorSwim do them? -Sparrow

Thank you. I will certainly take a gander at those books on Amazon. However, I have little faith in fundamentals.

What are good resources and books?

Why Grains? Grains, in particular Wheat (and later, probably Corn, Oats, and Soy) was mostly random, but also influenced by the amount of leverage in these markets, which I will explain below. Also, I ran most of my system tests on Grains, and the longest ones using Wheat. Since I have the most...

What are good resources and books?

I agree, and so I spend hours everyday doing that. But I'm looking for a little bedtime reading to step up my game. But while we're on the topic... I look through years of charts, clicking through by one day at a time, recording paper trades using opening prices. I also watch...

What are good resources and books?

What books do you recommend if I want to trade futures, in particular grains? I've read: -Come into My Trading Room, Elder -The Original Turtle Trading Rules -How to Trade in Stocks, Livermore (Without the commentary) -The Futures Game, Teweles and Jones -Reminiscences of a Stock...

My back-testing is too good to be true. What am I missing?

Thanks for the advice. I agree that all-time highs and lows are much less useful. However, zooming out on a daily chart so I can see the major highs and lows is very helpful, at least for me. And of course, EMAs rock. Cheers. Thanks everyone! This thread has given me some...

2k per year - not too shabby if PAL can do even half of what the devs say it can. After my first successful year, I ought to check it out.

Interesting program. I looked at their website yesterday. They don't talk about pricing, so I assume you can't mention how much it costs? :-) It'll be sometime before I can afford such a program and I'll have to look into how well it works.

Awesome. Exactly what I was wondering.

My back-testing is too good to be true. What am I missing?

That's fine. Let's see... EMA - one parameter MACD-H - three parameters 4 * 30 = 120 I have about 400 trades for the first four and a half years of the test. I still have three and a half years left, so that's more than enough.

    A Question on Pricing...

I'm using the free Think or Swim platform and don't have an account. I was wondering if there was something I didn't know about pricing, but the problem is most likely that I don't have a real account. Thanks!

    A Question on Pricing...

I appreciate that you're apologizing for my candles, but it really isn't your fault... :p

    A Question on Pricing...

I know what the bid/ask/last prices represent, but in Think or Swim, these prices are completely different from the prices show on my candles. What gives? For example, right now, at 11:00 AM, the pricing is as follows: Last...784.75 Bid.....784.00 Ask....784.50 But then my candle is...

Right, I'm talking about wheat. And yup, it's still $50/cent 1/4 cent per tick.

My back-testing is too good to be true. What am I missing?

Yet another question: Does anyone think an 8 cent stop would get hit often? I've been thinking of trading one contract per 10,000 instead of one per 5,000. I've also been thinking a 4% stop loss would be fine, as this would mean an 8 cent stop. Of course, my profits would be more than...
