Decided to only trade first and last hour.

Ok, first hour complete and I know I can't give it back until at least 3:00. I guess I can work out now, do my taxes, etc..

    LOL, true that.

Decided to only trade first and last hour.

The rest I have found is just break even at best, losing proposition actually, for me Benefits: -Helps prevents overtrading and second guessing -Helps prevent revenge trading -More likely to catch real significant moves -Market fatigue...

So I tried a little experiment today (ES)

I was watching the 1011.75 area as a potential long, part of my normal way of thinking.. didn't take the trade because I am reconfiguring the way I trade and am just observing for a few days. Anyway, I see that price moved down and thought: "Had I been long at 1012.00, and price moved...

I think I'm done trying to trade the ES

Thanks for your input and this is something I've struggled with. A big problem for me in trading the ES is that I really do not trust any type of rigid set up because I think its all bullshit really (nothing better than random) BUT at the same time you want something thats measurable, which...

I think I'm done trying to trade the ES

Nope, just normal volume bars on the 1, 5, 15 minute charts. Not constant volume bars.

I think I'm done trying to trade the ES

So it sounds like your saying volume is of no help, I'm finding that out the hard way.

I think I'm done trying to trade the ES

Sounds interesting, but I don't follow. Its true that I've been trying to NAIL the entry to the tick (which I've done many times) but still am getting no where.

I think I'm done trying to trade the ES

For the life of me, I can't figure out a way to go about it. I've focused on volume as a way to give me a slight edge. What else is there? I've watched thousands of volume bars and have a very good idea of when exhaustion occurs and the potential reversals to follow. As you can see it...

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

I completely agree with cost being a BIG factor in failure. Its amazing how quickly that shit adds up.

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

Here is a chart of the ES and MMM on the same day. Can you tell which is the ES?

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

Thats a good point about futs being zero sum and stocks not. This doesn't really explain the fact that an average futures chart doesn't really look any different than the avg stock chart. They both zig and zag, have small range days, big range days, trend days, 2 way days, you get the idea..

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

wow, i truly don't get what your saying here and what this has anything to do with my original question.

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

This actually makes sense, I could see this being a major cause of failure.

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

You're telling me all those less sophisticated traders gravitate to stocks, I believe its just the opposite actually. That doesn't make sense from the standpoint that the smart ones are going to take the low hanging fruit first and cash out on stocks before going to futures. C'mon dude...

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

I don't understand what leverage has to do with it really. If you have a million dollar account and are trading 1 contract does that make it any easier? Other than you'll last longer before having to refund your account.

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

A hand full of the guys on here that successfully are trading stocks (lescor, dustin, ericp, a few others) say DON'T trade futures.

What is it about futures that make them harder than stocks?

A few reasons I hear are: 1. Futures are extremely efficient. What exactly does that mean? Aren't there thousands of very intelligent traders/institutions using algo's to trade stocks squeezing every last bit of perceived inefficiency out of them using every strategy under the sun...

My 'humble attempt to trade' journal

First trade signals were pretty clear. Went in my favor a few points but then stopped out about an hour later. Maybe move stop loss to Break even in the future? Not sure. Second trade signals weren't very clear. Thats were having precision instructions on when to enter or exit trade...
