LOL, I wonder if the guy got greedy... I know one fund that closed that the owner did it the other way around... he basically continued to hire his programmers to continue supporting the software that managed his money... dood had close to 1b... and he likes money so he kept on at it...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

from experience, well... what we do ... we own the servers, we rent the floor space(cages) or racks... those are locked... access to the facilities is limited to (and I mean this) like 3 people within the LLT team... they are escorted in, and out... the facilities are usually CCTV protected...

    MSFT, what to do?

just remember... Bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered and options are not hard when you have the underlying... assuming you close half your position, it will cost you $1500 to protect the remainder with a July 28/30 putspread ... your min profit would be around $7K...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

I would say, within the context of this thread... co-lo is simply to bring your infrastructure as close as possible to your source/target as it is required by your strategy... in some cases that might be sub-ms, in others.. not... I think we can all agree with that...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

nope, again... read your own definition... which matches my own... what you guys are adding, which is only to financial services, is that is specific to a building.. when it is not... any server in any data center, when leasing/renting space, is being co-located... any server in financial...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

keep in mind I am not referring to the trading setup, I am just referring in general... I have a NG GenSet for the house, It power a subpanel for the stuff I care about, manual switch though... I have a backup LP GenSet, in case the the NG is cut off for whatever reason... I was out about a...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

you are correct about this, the context is important... but it would be ignorant to classify co-lo just to a single context... in trading co-lo just means proximity to your source (in this case the pieces of the puzzle that make LLT/HFT take place)... which is why you co-lo per venue..

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

get a backup DSL connection and place your router and modem on UPS as well... that is what I have... my cisco(and I dont mean linksys) ISR allows me to failover from Cable to DSL...it works great, my cable goes out like clockwork every day at around 4AM EST... sometimes I am up working at that...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

IMHO, slippage is a function or how fast the market is moving, the spread, and if your order type... latency will merely reduce/increase your position in the queue ahead or behind of the people who saw the condition before you did and were able to react before you ever did... oh, when I mean...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

I will speak as an IT guy... the co-location term is generic and implies your server is being co-located at a data center facility along the servers of a hosting provider and that you are renting floor space(cages) or rack space. you are assuming co-location, as a term, is specific to...

    Co-location (colo) for trading software

NetTecture pretty much stated the reasons for colocating, specially when doing ATS... now, one can do VPS or physical, I prefer physical... in my case I have two Co-Lo's... one in CHI and another one in NYC... why? why not... I had the servers, colo is $100 per U with 3Mbps outgoing and...

    MSFT, what to do?

if i was in your situation, i would take off half my position, and hold the other half while buying puts around your entry price... first off, the stock has not been $40 since 2000.... in 2008, it reached $37... it went around $32 back in 2010 twice.... and again in 2012... maybe it goes...

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

my investment window is 3 years for a system, I still keep them around even after that.. I give them away to family and such... long ago, I would swap every year... price/perf does not matter if you just do it for the write off more than anything else.

Build Your Own - Step by Step ( i7 2600k)

i dont disagree with you, and the calhawk01 guy didnt bother to state how he would use it... but said fastest, so technically, i7 itself isnt, unless one tweaks it... in any event, as I stated... it all depends on the workload... it is pointless to have the fastest if all you are doing is...
