    IB close different from NYSE

See what price shows up on your statement. It will probably match the NYSE closing price. The TWS last price includes after hours trading. So no closing price is displayed until they reset their system overnight.

    Hypothecation IB loaning out shares

The paid-in-lieu is taxed as ordinary income so you pay your normal incremental tax rate (e.g. 28, 31, . . .%). Dividends, if they otherwise meet requirements to be "qualified", are taxed at no more than a 15% rate. (Although all of this may change in 2013.)

    Selling for tax loss

Too late now but what I do is sell to get the loss and then buy a related company to hold through the 30 day wash sale period. Then I reverse them. Sort of like a pairs trade.

does the broker win when I lose

I'm old school. I believe your broker should be working on your behalf to execute your trades quickly, cheaply and with the best possible price. If they're taking the other side of the trade, there's an inherent conflict between your interests and their's. So beware the forex bucket shops...

    Positions Transfer Between Brokers

Report the transaction to the IRS based on the actual event, not on what was reported to you. Yes, it might get kicked out resulting in a letter to you from the IRS. Then you'll have to explain what you did and provide supporting documentation. But it won't result in a full audit or a major...

    Forex trading size

Of course I hope you're wrong. Every positive thing I've ever said about IB is based on their transparent handling of transactions. They do what you tell them to do very well and very inexpensively (including spreads, slippage, etc.) But if they're taking the other side of any trade at an...

    IB Forex - 25K >

Yes. Now when you set up a forex symbol (e.g. USD.JPY), you just enter the symbol on a blank line without specifying an exchange. When you want to trade, just hit the bid or ask and enter your quantity. Whether it's $1 or $1 million, the steps are the same. Note: I don't recall if the...

    Forex trading size

You do not understand how IB operates. Simply put, they ship the order off to the market maker offering the best price only when the order is executable. The only exception is when another retail client has placed an opposing order and then they match it within their own system. IB does not...

    IB Forex - 25K >

You no longer enter an order as IDEAL or IDEALPRO. Just enter the order. Generally you can expect it will be executed when the best bid or ask (depending on whether you are buying or selling) is 1 pip beyond your limit price. So for example, if you are buying USD.CAD at 1.0200, you will not...

Anybody here trade forex with IB?

I acknowledge I'm a hyperactive trader and did over $3B in forex in September. I start most trades at $400k to $1M. But I'm on a winning streak now (for the most part) so can't slow down. But I'm ready to pull the plug when needed as this is my best year ever. Just looked at my last...

How long does a MM have to bust a trade

I've heard 2 hours but others might have better data. Doesn't make sense that it would be minutes for an OTC stock. With electronic matching, first the person on the other side of the trade has to notify their broker, who has to put in notice with the exchange, that has to review the data, etc.

    Questionable Forex Fill at IB

You probably need to better understand how IB operates with forex. They're not a bucket shop that took the other side of your trade. Your order resided in their system until the best bid/ask by one of their liquidity providers caused your order to get sent out for execution. (It's also...

Ending Settled Cash vs Ending Cash

Your statement values reflect the real value of your account as if all transactions are completed in real time. The settlement values take into account that there's a lag between when you execute a trade and when the cash exchanges hands. For instance, U.S. stock sales have a 3 day settlement...

    Dell Warranty Extension

Odds are you don't need/won't use an extended warranty. So I'd save the $ and use for your next purchase. Only exception might be if you really can't afford to do without your computer and can't afford to fix it should it break. But $200 seems to put the odds squarely in Dell's favor. Next...

How exactly do Buy Limit orders become Bids?

True but it's also possible that while your bid is displayed the market will shift down to the point where your bid is equal to the current ask. This will result in you getting an execution the same as if you had placed a market order at that time.

IB can liquidate your positions whenever they want?

Liquidations are automated at IB. No one was looking at your account deciding to screw you. So what triggered the liquidations? If they were unnecessary than there should be a conflict between their programming logic and your account position at the point of time they were liquidated.

    Bid Ask limit orders

The market makers display bid/ask prices and Interactive Brokers ships your order off when a market maker price matches your limit order price. (There's no central exchange for forex.) In the mean time, if an IB client's bid/ask price is better than a market makers, their order gets displayed.

    Bid Ask limit orders

With Interactive Brokers (IB) your limit order is displayed in their system to other traders. You will get executed exactly as you describe unless another IB client uses your bid/ask to complete their transaction. It doesn't happen that often but I sometimes get partial fills that are clearly...

fx orders not getting through on IB

They won't pay any compensation for this scenario. Their brokerage agreement is clear that their customers should have an alternate source of quotes and trade capability should they not be able to execute through IB. I'm not saying that's always practical but the language covers them well.
