Making big purchases at a low price

Nothing wrong in my opinion with placing an order to signal or communicate something to the market. Of course, any order placed may get executed.

    Improving My Performance

Yes, at least the way I count a trade which is a series of buys/sells from start of a position until closeout of the position. I keep a complete log of each trade (open date, close date, trade type, security, capital/gain loss, dividend, net gain/loss). Many of my trades were losses that I...

    Improving My Performance

Nazzdack has correctly read a lot from limited information. I can't stand the thought of passing up a quick profit and some of my best trades have started out with big losses. I do need to learn how to slow down and let the trades fulfill their potential. I'm doing some stock trades...

    Improving My Performance

I love the feeling I get following a successful trade, no matter how small the profit. But sometimes the need for a "high" causes me to set unrealistic goals, get in over my head, etc. My trading performance 2006 year-to-date is as follows. WINNING TRADES = 525 for $87.5k LOSING TRADES =...

canadian income trusts to be taxed

Why not just initiate the corporate tax on new trusts and grandfather the existing ones in? That way seniors and others dependent on trust income don't see their income go down as well as their net worth.

    Weekend gap in FX

There's about 48 hours between Friday's close and Sunday night's open and the world changes during that period. Same reason why the stock market doesn't open each day at the prior day's close.

Which war, terrorist attack, assassination, etc. caused this?

    DIA/SPY Pair Trade

Look back over a long time period and draw your own conclusions. But this seems to be the year of the large cap so the Dow has performed well. On a short term basis, it's a risky pairs trade. Earnings news (+ or -) on a single Dow stock can have an overall impact on the Dow that conflicts...

IB: Several seconds after cancelling an order...

I think you'll find that IB is just the middle man in all of this. If one of your orders is executed, IB has no choice but to report the execution to you. They can take your request forward to the exchange for a bust but there might be a fee for this. Also, the time limit to request busts is...

Free trades with Bank of America

    I stand corrected.

    FX vs Futures execution times.

If you're talking about trading news during the U.S. business day, I think you'll find adequate (i.e. normal) liquidity in most any instrument. I haven't directly observed forex vs futures during such an event but I think the big players have programs that maintain them in synch and I would be...

Free trades with Bank of America

Remembering that "there's no such thing as a free lunch" has alwyas worked for me. So they give free trades. But do you pay more than what commission would normally be through inefficient execution? Do they make it up by routing their orders to whoever kicks back the most for order flow...

    Spot forex vs futures forex

I'm guessing there's a hundred other posts on this topic on ET so you should probably do a search. But personally, I like futures if for no other reason because it's handled through a regulated exchange. Forex is unregulated.

Can state run pensions use derivatives?

I think the answer is yes. Put in Google "Orange County Derivatives". About 10 years ago Orange County, California started investing in derivatives and earned plenty early on. Many municipalities followed suit without understanding the risks. When the market went the other way, billions were...

IB rejected me, other broker with per share Commish?

If your rejection was based on information in your credit report, IB would have to inform you of this and you would have a chance to request a free report from the credit bureau providing the information. So it must be your experience level or account size. If you review their ratings on this...

Is IB making mistakes in its commission example table

I haven't traded GBP in a while but it was always $3 per contract. This must be a mistake.

    IB question

I just replaced my Windows 98 computer. Had been using it as a backup for TWS without any problem. Incidentally, I also reinstalled the operating system at one point. When I was finished, the computer operated just like it did when it first arrived from the factory.

    newbie question re Interactive Brokers

I have the TSE data from IB for $9.50 a month. Without it, you won't be able to add stocks sold on the TSE into Trader Workstation. You don't have to have any other data than this.

    Anybody trading currencies?

I've transitioned completely away from stock trading to forex over the past several months. I don't have experience with the bucket shops since I'm only trading futures but I'll second the suggestion to consider using IB. Your orders will get filled as quoted and you can place orders between...
