JPM to buy BSC for $2.00!!!!

How does the company get to negotiate what its shareholder's are going to receive for their stock? They're not in bankruptcy. If I was holding shares (and I'm not) I do not understand how anyone would have the right to sell my shares. I might understand it if a stockholder vote was...

Holding Oil for speculative reason is illegal from tomorrow .....

..So, you're saying that 'by definition' futures prices are always at an equilibrium. In that case, by your definition, there is no such thing as overbought, oversold, etc. Funny, I thought futures prices were exploratory in nature... I thought they reflected expectations of the market...

Holding Oil for speculative reason is illegal from tomorrow .....

Ok. I'm gonna call bullshit. Maybe that means that I am ignorant and lazy, but hopefully your counter arguments will sway me or get me started on a path to knowledge. So... let me get this straight. You're saying that the fact that everyone (fund managers, businesses, individuals) believes...

    Hitting new lows...

I actually agree... and giving you my recommendation. There is nothing like real experience... but expect to pay for it.. and dearly. Even if you're like me, and only blow out a couple of times (rather than losing more than your account) then you still have significant opportunity costs...

    Hitting new lows...

All cycles take much longer to unravel than we expect... or at least that's been my experience. I fully expected the market to collapse at the beginning of last year. I reasoned that people couldn't be foolish enough to continue buying in the face of an obvious recession. My timing was...

    Openecry commissions ?

I'm not sure about the web interface for futures... I was just told that they offer it for futures options.. which is, imho, circa 1998. But they said that they were 'working' on a desktop based futures options platform.. but didn't have a release date.

    Openecry commissions ?

I was annoyed by having to request a quote from them... something I loath. here's the information they sent me recently: http://www.openecry.com/rates/rates.cfm Retail Rate Tables for Balances < $100,000 * $5,000 account minimum required * NO minimum trades per month * NO software...

    International Trading

I'm pretty well aware of the many United States brokers who could give me access to international exchanges... but in my situation I'm not interested in them. I actually want to hold funds off-shore. And no this isn't a scheme to avoid taxes of any kind. I'm actually interested in learning...

    International Trading

Ok, I'm totally at a loss as to how to answer this simple question: how does a US resident open a brokerage account outside of the USA (Europe, Austrailia, etc.)? I would, of course, like to keep costs at a minimum. I just want to be able to have 2-3 accounts and transfer money between them...

    Forex Spot vs Currency Futures

Atticus, Thank you for the reply. But I think I already understand what you mean. My question basically is: is it possible to see the futures price react when interest is paid on spot forex? I would think it would be noticable especially on Wednesdays when forex gets a 3 day interest...

    Forex Spot vs Currency Futures

I am trying to figure out how currency futures react to payments of interest. I'm aware that the futures price is adjusted and decays... but how, and when? For example, excluding transaction costs, would it be possible to take a forex position @ 5pm EST and an offsetting futures position...

    Coincidental??

:D I totally hear you. It basically reinforces the idea that the banks are not Market Making to give away money. They know where most people have their stops.. and they run them... I just don't know how they know what they know.

Does the VIX relate to calls and puts equally?

no. Pick up a option book...Natenberg has a good one. High VIX = perception of a high degree of risk. and when does that happen? When the market is crashing... not when it's sky rocketing. A compare the VIX between 2000 - to 2003 and 2003 to 01/2007.

Google rolls out its Facebook killer

I couldn't agree more. Google is a serious threat to personal privacy...and soon enough government will be using it more extensively. I use google every day... but the way they horde information is a ridiculous liability to its users. Another point about google... Does anyone remember...

    Futures also have time-decay, right?

Well... I think you're on the right track. Time decay does also occur in ftures as it does in options... but it's barely noticeable by comparison. You're only going to notice it when you're comparing the spot price with the futures price...and the decay is steady (constant) and does not...
