    Listening to...

It is great, so is that entire concert. "The Last Waltz". The Neil Young song, Helpless, with Joni Mitchell on backup vocals is great as well.

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

Because it was started the last time the market went thru a prolonged drought of volatility.

    Mexico cartels steal Pemex oil

Those are good points "much safer with a higher level of corruption". It could be compared to the U.S. with the mafia or other highly organized crime syndicates that have working agreements about how to conduct business. Typically, the out of control violence begins once the head of the...

And I first really "listened" (if you know what I mean) to her voice and the great range she has in this great ensemble concert...

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

I've known experienced (say 20-30-40 years) traders who NEVER short the markets and do just fine (even in bear markets). It's also true that the sharpest "rip your face off" rallies also occur in bear markets. Takes a great deal of skill to consistently short the indicies and come out in one...

Perfect example of a "failed state".

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

S&P 500 is up 327% since March 2009 and 58% in just shy of 2 years. (No opinion on future direction implied).

Poker players make the best traders?

"properly" has not been defined and could also have a great deal of variance. If one were trading in 2000 or 2008, one could have made a fortune (but still with a great deal of variance). A poker player up against a table of novices might experience little variance. The cards are only a small...

Poker players make the best traders?

In my opinion, the speed of poker gives it some consistency. It becomes a routine and you can develop a rhythm. Trading is a different beast because each trade varies in the amount of time held (which is probably why people like to automate and eliminate the emotion variable).

Poker players make the best traders?

It kinda depends on the poker opponent, don't it? Like saying "tennis is hard"

A bit of nostalgia - Opening day CBOE 1973

Wasn't Robert Rubin involved with CBOE in its early days? I remember being somewhat surprised as I'd assumed he was always a NYC Wall Street guy.

Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

It takes balls if one traded 15-20-25 years ago and remembers when markets punished excessive sentiment, complacency, etc, etc...It takes no balls if one started trading these markets in the past few years and has never seen a quick 5-10% decline in a week or so. Ignorance is bliss.

When price is in a range why do some people buy at the top? lol

Maybe there was a strong trend prior to January 16. Sort of like looking at the Russell 2000 for 3-4-5 months, then it moves in one direction with no pullbacks for several weeks. These aren't your father's markets.

American Right is going the Nazi way

Those were two pretty good tosses of shoes (probably had some weight to them), but the "ready position" of Bush and the casual reflexive dodges were even more impressive. Plus, the grin on his face throughout was the icing on the cake.
