A kid at the candy store (10/23/03)

Some days I do. I'm waiting for the low in the ES to be taken out before I get too excited. A funny thing I noticed by accident was on days when I felt great and had good results I checked my biorhythm and found my emotional level was high every time. I don't have much faith in it, but I just...

    ES where is everybody?

Probable trend day. I've got my positions on so not much to do until the close. All I've been doing is playing Americas Army on another system.

    undercapitalization or just a loser?

Thank you Flow_77 for bringing this up. I took my production systems and ran them against the DAX data I have (from 1998 - present) to see how it should be daytraded. It looks pretty clear that volatility breakouts work great on this market. My prod volatilty breakout system only had one losing...

    undercapitalization or just a loser?

If you make a mistake and keep doing it you should stop trading until you have enough discipline to correct your mistakes. 1). At this point you are just another animal for slaughter. The DAX has been averaging 84 pts day/range this year. At 25 eur per-point this is 2100 Eur/day (about 3...

    10/15/03

The model derived it based on the EOD SP day session data. Another one will buy if the market hits 1055.10 today. Have you actually found any positive results using neural nets? (From my limited knowledge of the subject, there appears to be some recent promising results using SOMs (Self...

    10/15/03

My models are all breakout driven. They give me points where I need to be long or short for a day. Today I'm a buyer. I've been taking my first two trades each day by frontrunning the index arb programs. It looks like free money early in the day. Just blew my mind sellers would dump stock...

    10/15/03

Looks like some funds really wanted to sell early this morning. I've been watching the PREM get so low the buy index arb. programs were buying while the market was dropping. Somebody must really want to sell if they're that desperate. It'll be interesting to see if the market makes up much...

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

Daytrading margins vary by broker. My broker charges only $500 per-ES. My point was that the volatilty was declining faster in the NQ than the SP/ES market (34% decline versus 27%). Make your profits now and bank them. Who knows, we might be saying this was the good old days for daytrading in...

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

If you can increase your size as the volatility drops then it doesn't mean much. For me, the daily range reflects the opportunity per-contract in the market. I try to capture as much of the daily range as possible. I get sick when I see how the ND daily range has declined. Here's the results...

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

NQ is worse than SP/ES. It's volatility is down about 34% this year. Of course if you trade 2 or more NQ's for every ES then it's a better bargain. Average range in NQ this year is 26.6 pts. ($532/day - down from 40.3 pts. last year) versus SP 14.5 ($725/day for ES).

It's the day session of the SP.

What Happened to the 15-20 point range days?

Daily range is down 25% from last year (2002 averaged 20.0 pts/day). So far it's averaging 14.5 pts/day which puts it's range between 1997 (13.8) and 1998 (17.7). Who knows if we'll see 20+ pts/day anytime soon. All we can do is adjust by increasing size and live with it until it does.

better univeristy = better trading job ?

If you have the chance to choose a school, take a look at a firms college recruiting schedule to see what schools they visit. I was at a IB and we looked at 1st year MBA students from great schools for summer internships on trading desks. If it worked out, we tried to lock up a deal before they...

Why do you come to ET?

Just killing time while sitting in my open positions. I have no choice but to sit in front of the screen until I'm done for the day.

    best place to buy memory?

The local computer store guy that comes buy to tune up my systems buys everything from pricewatch.com. He says they have the best prices in the world on all computer stuff.

No Job at All! Trading Screwed Labor Dept report.

While there may not be more burger flipping jobs, at least we seem to be in the right field. I remember the days when a currency trader was happy to make 160k. Did anyone see the Greenwich Associates compensation blurb on the bottom of page 49 of the 11/2003 Active Trader? Average traders total...

    Do the Indices Lead Stocks?

I don't think the cash indexes can lead stocks since they're just a composite of the underlying issues. The futures indices lead stocks as that's the whole point of futures (do in futures what you're planning on doing in the future in the underlying instrument). If you're planning on selling a...

How Often Do You Change Your System

Once I use a system in production I never make a change to it. I monitor it quarterly to make sure it continues to trade with a edge. When the edge drops, the system is dropped and another one replaces it (long before it becomes a net loser).

Price series analysis in pre development

The next step for me is to measure each year against a monte carlo sampling of trades. In the Three Black Crows test I'm using daily data. The holding period I'm using is 1 day since this is a daytrade (buy on open and exit on close). I separate the number of trades by year and total the profits...
