A theoretical ability only, but not a practical one. We have phones on the floors, and people near them, but we aren't procedurally or manpower-wise prepared for phone communications. Given the current trend to migrate away from floors, I do not anticipate adding phone trading as a facility.

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

Having a backup broker is still prudent. If the problem is IB's connnection to the CME/GLOBEX, then both floor activity and e-trading may be affected. If the issue is in our inhouse order or risk mgmt, the same would apply. But otherwise, yes we will allow an opening trade on SPX against a...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

In theory, for SPX only, you can do it now. But our trade desk staff is not experienced with floor executions and will not likely call the order down. Instead we will use our internal TWs systems to route a trade for the client's benefit.

IDEALPRO. The quoting convention is the interbank convention, e.g. USD/EUR. The denominator is the instrument you are trading (e.g. EUR) and the numerator currency is the way you are paying/getting paid for the transaction (here, USD). This is EXACTLY like for stocks, although few people map...

    W-8 changes 15.05.06 - important

For all intents and purposes, the old W-8 is invalid so not completing the new form will be as if you had never filled out a W-8 at all. The new W-8 requires info not requested previously and, as you can imagine, an incomplete government form is a like a lake without water: it serves no purpose...

    W-8 changes 15.05.06 - important

Good question. I don't know what are the rules if a non-US person fails to complete a W8, and trades exclusively in non US instruments, for example German stock. I will find out.

    IB IDEALPRO FX 21 hours

Sorry, not likely. I am considering lowering the margin for max liquidity hours but 100:1 is risky for the broker so even that is not very popular around here. For an account with 100K, we can handle that risk, even if we dont want to. Our system puts clients directly to the market and they can...

    IB IDEALPRO FX 21 hours

It is now avail for 17:15 to 1:700 (T+1) NZD maybe in 3-4 months but there really isnt a lot of business there and the markets won't be great. We are looking at Norway, Brazil, Ruble, Mexico first.

    W-8 changes 15.05.06 - important

You are not correct. US government regulations have made it the responsibility of most financial institutions who do business in the US, or want to, to enforce their policy. IB does not set the policy. IB is not giving you the runaround. We aren't in the tax advice business, period. We can...

    W-8 changes 15.05.06 - important

Winter is correct. We cannot get into tax issues because, frankly, we aren't fluent in this complex topic. Our staff focus on the business, not government regulatory issues we cannot change. I will down what I know (which comes only from having lived overseas so you should not take it as...

    Unethical Conduct by IB

Pink is a transitory state, i.e. "pending cancel". A Simple workflow example: 1) order is working. Status = working; color = green 2) client initiates a cancel request. Status is pending cancel; color = pink 3) cancel request is acknowledged by the current "holder" of the order, either IB's...

Sorry, what was actually said was very different than what you state. Please see my post on page 23 of this thread and the additional info provided by IBsoft on page 24. Pink status is persistent.

    Erroneous Trade On IB's Forex.

The reason this is taking so long is we couldn't figure it out at level 1&2 so it is under review at the developer level. But we (IB) are unnecessarily commingling 2 issues in our handling: (1) figuring out what happened at the software level. On first glance, it seems like there was some...

    Unethical Conduct by IB

Actually, the key phrase is: "To date, we have not noticed any pattern of latency from any single provider so we have not needed to consider the pattern of response times in our routing decisions." One sentence earlier. Perhaps you missed it while thumbing through Martindale's.

    Unethical Conduct by IB

IDEALPRO is a consolidation of several "exchanges" (read counterparties or banks). We take the real time quotes each provides, blend them with client orders to create a virtual order book that presumes the ability to execute on the posted price. When a marketable order comes in, IB looks at the...

    Unethical Conduct by IB

IB's basic rule 1 is: 'If a client submits an order that subsequently executes, that execution belongs to the client as long as the execution was consistent with the terms of the order'. Examples of inconsistency might be executions at worse than a limit, or an over-execution. It is rare...

    Unethical Conduct by IB

Should a client inquire about an order whose status is indeterminate (pink or light blue), we would: 1) know there is a possible problem, 2) run a trace process which would show us where the thing got lost 3) see it was sent to a bank/exchange but never ack'd as either executed or rejected...

    Unethical Conduct by IB

I extracted the facts from TRADERguys's presentation about page 11 of this thread and added my comments in blue/red. The presentation is muddled because it commingles actions on 2 orders: a limit order to sell (this is the problem order), and a related buy stop order. The stop order really has...
