It's my understanding that Gilead declined the designation.

    Virus .....read this

If this conspiracy theory were true, they would've just released the virus in NYC early in the winter months. That would've caused the most damage to our economy. I don't see why they would release it in their own country first. The scientific data points towards the coronavirus being of...

    Proof the polls are rigged.

To simplify, the polling results are 49/40 in favor of Biden. Their most recent polls are based off data from 49% Democrats & 40% Republicans, so this would suggest a fairly even race. The election is likely to come down to centrists & moderate voters in purple states. Biden will have a...

What did you think of the stimulus package?

I have very mixed feelings about the stimulus bill. Part of a fair market society is allowing businesses to fail. But at the same time, the government has forced businesses to shut down throughout much of the country. So to some extent, the government is responsible for the economic downturn...

    US Unemployment: Holy F***

I don't see this turning into a prolonged depression unless something major changes. Some are even predicting that we'll be back on track by the 3rd quarter. That may be a little optimistic, but I could see it happening if the virus does turn out to be seasonal.

When was the last time 14 people died of the flu in 12hrs...in one hospital?

The current mortality rate is ~3%, but that's based off of confirmed cases. It's estimated that ~80% of cases will have light symptoms or no symptoms at all. Those cases will go largely undiagnosed. The actual mortality rate is probably closer to 0.5%. That doesn't sound that bad, but the flu...

USA! USA! USA! Winning the coronavirus race

Our early testing was insufficient, but one of the doctors said yesterday that we've tested more people in the last 8 days than South Korea has tested in the past 8 weeks. So hopefully we're finally starting to get some decent testing data to work with.

USA! USA! USA! Winning the coronavirus race

I've been tracking the number of new cases that are reported every day in the U.S. This metric will likely provide the first indications that the curve has peaked. The growth rate has seemed to slow over the past few days, but it's still increasing. Mar. 16th - 983 Mar. 17th - 1,748 Mar. 18th...

    Democrats purposely delaying Stimulus Package

Interestingly enough, Trump came out in support of providing funding for the Kennedy center in his press conference today. It seems this is more of a bipartisan issue than many people thought.

    Fauci out?

Maybe Fauci was actually there yesterday and we didn't see him because he's so short. :D

Trump is making a big mistake?

I agree with Trump that the economy shouldn't be shut down all the way through August, but we probably need longer than 15 days to flatten the curve of the virus. We probably need another 2-4 weeks beyond that based off the curves I've seen from other countries. Hopefully he doesn't jump the...

    Fauci out?

Dr. Fauci deserves a medal whenever all of this is over. He's been a voice of reason during this chaotic time. It was a smart move by Trump to get him behind the mic. It would be a huge mistake to change that.

Trump is obviously going to win in 2020

The early data shows that we're doing a great job of flattening the curve in comparison to the rest of the world. We still have a long way to go, but it feels like we've been relatively successful thus far.

Trump is obviously going to win in 2020

I initially thought that this would really hurt Trump's chances at a second term, but now I'm not so sure. He slow-played this initially, but his early travel ban to China is looking more & more like a great move. It appears that the U.S. is doing a good job of flattening the curve. The latest...

If this is Armageddon why are Chinese stocks only 12% off this year's highs?

I wouldn't necessarily say that it's superior, but they're structured very differently. QQQ is heavily weighted towards large cap tech stocks, and SPY is more diversified. This has allowed QQQ to outperform SPY by about 5% annually for the past decade. Check out their holdings for a better...

The next generation will probably say the same thing.

Don't all flu virus's spread around the globe? Why is Covid-19 so special?

The early scientific data suggests that it's much more contagious and has a much higher mortality rate than the flu. The overall level of fear we've seen is probably overblown, but flattening the curve so that our healthcare system doesn't get overwhelmed is probably a smart move.

    Shorten the trading day? WTFFFFF

I would assume this is due to the outbreak in New York, and not due to volatility. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.
