Hello, yes, thank you... I've been looking for an IBD that provides color. It is so important. Thank you for emphasizing this!

Commodity crash - worse than 2000 tech bust

you have a lot of limiting beliefs in there. the two main ones are that inefficiencies in a retail market are rare and unbelievable, and the second that the only way to source large quantities of metal is to take delivery of a futures contract. since you called bullshit, maybe you should be...

Commodity crash - worse than 2000 tech bust

No, he has no argument, because he's trying to make the correlation that some small time coin purchaser unable to locate some buffalo's that the mint stopped minting is a sign of a shortage. silver/gold > 1k oz you can buy all you want. retail shortages aren't a sign of anything but big margins...

    Tuco updates

no, they weren't short, GLB the IB they were going through owed them in those commission receivables. still do actually, and they don't want to pay and are quoting less than they owe (deducting their crazy lawyer fees from the total and other stupid stuff), which is why this is dragging out.

    Hyperinflation

Until it does. Wiser to hedge for it, than assume it's impossible.

    Hyperinflation

No, he's saying that gold as a storehouse of value is as stable as they come with thousands of years of track record. [B] No, you have to take it to a gold dealer. Any mom and pop coin/jewlery shop or your more respected bullion dealer will buy. People aren't suggesting gold will be used...

Creative thinking. How to short the dollar.

if you want to short the dollar: short treasuries, bonds, notes. if you want to hedge: long gold, other commodities... euro, yuan, yen, if you need paper.

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

From everything I'm reading, it means what you said: any services already performed and currently being deferred will continue being deferred up to 2017. Any services provided after 2008 will no longer be elligible for deferral.

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

Yes, I see existing funds will be grandfathered if in existence before Jan 1, 2009. So, shouldn't apply to existing firms. I've linked to two respected law firms interpretations of the bill. I suppose you're free to make your own judgements.

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

Actually, it's the abolition of deferment which is part of how they are justifying taxing at the full rate: http://www.crowell.com/NewsEvents/Newsletter.aspx?id=1042...

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

Right, yes pass-through income, not earned.

How do Hedge Funds pay 15% tax?

This is a logical assumption, but it's not correct. The real reason for them being taxed at the highest rate is because in the recent revised 'bailout bill', there was a clause snuck in eliminating the 15% cap gains loophole for fund managers. Thus manager payout is now taxed as earned income...

Obama To Introduce Crackdown Measures On Tax Havens

You have to have approval from the Treasury in order to get it legally done. They will reject your renunciation if you haven't squared accts with the IRS. Moving all your assets offshore only helps if you are never going back and have no US sourced income and don't mind evading on future...

Obama To Introduce Crackdown Measures On Tax Havens

Yes, the exit tax replaces the 10yr income obligation. Also, the 30 day rule (if you come in for 30 days or more you revert to being taxed as a citizen) was repealed. Good question on the future sale of capital gains, I'm not sure if you'd be doubly taxed, from reading it doesn't look like...

Obama To Introduce Crackdown Measures On Tax Havens

It says the ACT of renunciation is irrevocable... it says nothing of refusing a future attempt to citizenship as a foreign national. I didn't criticize. Just pointed out what you were saying was no longer valid because the law has changed... I don't know, I think that adds a lot to the...

Obama To Introduce Crackdown Measures On Tax Havens

As for the first part, can you cite a reference for that claim? The second part is false. The Heart-Act replaced the 10 year rule for citizens expatriating after June 08. So, a lot of the the things you were saying in later posts based on this don't apply.

Obama To Introduce Crackdown Measures On Tax Havens

Specific examples of these programs? Searching DPP, Reagan and Tax shelter returns nothing. I'm not aware of any of these 'projects'. Any links please?

Dual residency: Open account as foriegn or US trader?

No, I don't think that. You said because George Soros can do it, most can. I was saying it's expensive and complex and most can't. Good traders on here for sure make 7figs+, but they're a minority. Also, you're only looking at the cost of maintaining the structures. Realistically, you also...

Dual residency: Open account as foriegn or US trader?

hehe, yea ok.... http://www.gurufocus.com/news.php?id=839 "As you can see from the above not uncommon corporate structure used by most well healed international investors, there are five layers of corporate entities which are strewn around the world in various tax havens to protect Soros...
