    my mechanical system

i agree, the stats make this look like a dip buying system. * I agree with previous poster what is your tie breaker in case of multiple signals * Are you including in your analysis stocks that trade 100 shares a day (always make systems look great) * If your market entry exit slippage...

    Peter Schiff is the man..

Doesn't that make a joke of the whole concept? Ie I believe the reason for that rule is to not have foreign spin on our media (propoganda). What if Osama Bin Laden or some chinese nationalist because US citizens, used their $$ to buy our media and spin stories in their favor?

so which do you think the herd is watching? Who goes to the casino that doesn't have the flashing lights and dancing ladies? Whats fascinating about CNBC is that they act like they are giving u useful information or your "ahead" fo the crowd.. information you NEED to know. I only found CNBC...

since FED is owned by banks

I would be surprised if we don't get 50 bps cut. And getting 50 bpt cut confirms that the banks PWN the Fed. Lets see!! (and potentially renew my faith in America if they don't go 50)

If the Fed were to bailout subprime, they should demolish surplus homes inventory...

I think he was being sarcastic, ie saying the same thing you are; ie since their logic is flawed to begin with, why not keep it going?

Why are people on ET so against a decent minimum wage

Because here in the US we hate our neighbors and want to win at all costs. We judge each other by the things we have rather than the relationships we keep. Thats also why we progress so much faster than the rest of the world, because we're never happy and now we're paranoid too :)

Do most traders even have an edge?

Now lets attach a name to this system. We will refer to Lunar Waves, or Q Cycles, or some Astrology, or whatever. Now its a real system! Unbelievably, following our "Q Cycles" system, the average retail trader would actually DO BETTER than on his/her own. He (or she) would justify the...

Do most traders even have an edge?

I have done many tests on the S&P going back to 1996 with random entry and exit (long only). Here were the rules: A) On a given day, randomize a number 1 through 10, if its 5 buy. If not a buy, go to next day. We invest 100% of equity in each trade. B) If in a position (from A), randomize...

Do most traders even have an edge?

One of the things hardest to accept is that the future is uncertain. In Fortune's Formula, one percept that was included that as # of sample increase, the results should APPROACH what the long-term odds should be. For example, flip a coin 10 times, 100 times, 1m times, 10 trillion times. While...

Do most traders even have an edge?

I strongly disagree with virtually everything you've written here. A) "Statistically Signficant" -- how do you quantify that. Do you have a sample size of N? I do considerable backtesting, Monte Carlo, and probably the hardest question to answer is -- IS IT STATISTICALLY SIGNIFICANT. To say...

Do most traders even have an edge?

Whether you refer to chart patterns, etc. Lets take Head & Shoulders, Double-Bottom, whatever. People attribute their success to these patterns or whatever edge they believe they have. When in reality, buying and selling randomly should produce positive expectancy (since the market has a...
