Quantopian Algo Community Grows to 160K Members

Not really. 99.9999% of those algos are useless.

They recently shut down live trading capability. Not sure of the end goal.

Human Traders Are Trouncing the Machines

My take on “elite” was that they don’t try to reinvent the wheel. It’s more efficient to accomplish in 600 lines of a procedural language using pre-built tools, instead of building from scratch with 20,000 lines of C++

Human Traders Are Trouncing the Machines

ET member Simples quoted this in an older thread in the software forum. It really is the proper line of thinking when coding trading strategies. “Good programmers code fewer flaws. Great programmers code as few lines as possible. Elite programmers strive to avoid programming entirely.”

    Need Advice

No kidding. It’s not only laughable, but an insult to the informed players of this industry. Teach grammar school, and compete with some of the worlds best speculators, on the side?? Keep dreaming

    Trading mentor

Just ask questions here. Politely ask members if you can PM them if you want more in depth answers. I've been in this forum less than a year, and have given free advice to many lost traders. If someone asks for money, they're a piece of shit. Since I primarily do this for a living, I can tell...

    Takion Vs. Fusion

IMO, unless your tied into either of them through a specific prop firm/broker, the off-the-shelf retail stuff (NT, Multicharts, etc...) is miles ahead, especially in regards to automated system development and execution.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

Everyone is overthinking this. You get filled at your limit price, or better, than no problem. I could care less how the broker facilitated it.

What are the questions you ask yourself in order to eliminate false positives?

Historical data mining, statistics and walk forward analysis. Otherwise it’s always a shot in the dark.

What do students need to learn about day trading?

Sure, in fantasyland. If that was true Mark Douglas (RIP) would have died a billionaire.

How simple are professional trader's strategies?

It's more about making something complex look simple. Either way, without some kind of active participation you'll never maintain consistency as a trader.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

I forgot to mention that I only trade US equities through them. I can't offer my opinion on other products, but my equity orders get filled within my system parameters, and at portfolio level, nearly simultaneously. I've never had any margin or auto-liquidation issues with them, but I generally...

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

I think you're missing the point friend. I'm no cheerleader for them, but there is no broker on the retail side who can compete with their commission structure and provide the same capability in regards to order routing and back end structure. You have ZERO options.

IB (finally?) admits to matching orders internally

It is what it is. The problem for retail algo traders is that you won't find a more capable broker routing algorithm or back end. They got you by the balls. Even smaller hedge funds are getting into their prime brokerage services.

What do students need to learn about day trading?

Nope. Competitive advantage (edge) first, then discipline. You're reading too many books.

How useful do "you" find level 2

I was just pulling your chain bud, but Level 2 was useful when markets were slower and you could manuallly scalp. Things move too fast now. You need programs.
