Just wondering when does a trader become a gambler?

That's not the kind I meant. Buying soybean futures isn't the same as buying farmable land to grow soybeans, just like buying apartment buildings isn't the same as buying REIT's. You get the drift? If you don't, stop trading immediately. We're dealing with side bets where your hard earned...

Just wondering when does a trader become a gambler?

A trader is always a gambler, simply because the risk of ruin cannot be eliminated, regardless of how clever or exotic the strategy.

Is active trading a viable job for an individual?

Strongly agree. The US should require two years of mandatory military service at age 18, preferably in a backwards country like Bangladesh. If this was implemented, you'd have very few people protesting in the streets of America. We really live in a bubble here :)

Is active trading a viable job for an individual?

Absolutely. Jim Simons doesn’t look too smart, and doesn’t sound extremely sophisticated, but he’s definitely a lethal weapon. Maybe he just goes “laymen” when he does those interviews.

Mark Douglas - How to think like a professional trader

Yes. I spread the orders out after US market open. Performance has been good last few months with increase in volatility. Last year, barely beat the benchmark. New to trading - Got a bunch of books. Scared to learn outdated things.

Although I find the concepts fascinating, I don’t use Fibonacci, and haven’t conducted any research/testing, but since we’re dealing with percentages, I don’t see any reason why a powerful quantitative framework can’t be built around it, or using it in combination with other studies.

What metrics do you use to measure trading success?

Not really. Just redundantly emphasizing that no free lunches exist. Discretion has its place in strategy design and research, but no place in the heat of battle. An algo is pretty much dogshit without expert discretionary input.
