Using Options to Hedge an Outright Futures trade against ......

Well you'd have to look at how the ETF gets its exposure to the future you are trading. I know for ES you can hedge directly with SPY. The relationship is 1 ES = 500 SPY. So for example if you buy 1 ES, 10 50 delta Puts on SPY will put you flat.

The Koch brothers are buying oil for -$0.50 per barrel

The article is about a high-sulfur "sour" grade of crude. No one wants that stuff when low-sulfur "sweet" crude is abundant. No real story here outside of click-bait.

Is it possible to make >=20% expected geometric mean returns per year with options? Why?

I'll give you that. I was just being academic. Must've been someone else I never said that. I only said if you could reliably predict when HV will be less than IV.

Is it possible to make >=20% expected geometric mean returns per year with options? Why?

You need to delta hedge to isolate PnL to just the IV/HV spread and the literature is just as consistent in saying perfect delta hedging is impossible. Edit: Missed the last sentence. If you could trade say, variance swaps which are pure IV/HV plays, then reliably and accurately predicting...

    2015 market performance

Really? 2015 SPX looks at lot like 2011 SPX right down to the measly return. The sell off this year wasn't as bad but it was just as steep, in the same month even.

Countless threads on ET of people selling teenies and blowing out their account and finally one guy decides to buy them and makes 23% on his first posted trade!

Are the majority of great traders systemetic or discretionary?

Given the non-stationarity of the markets, I'd image the longest lived trades are discretionary traders.

    Still a Dip Buyer's Market

Screams of curve-fitting and hindsight bias. There are five variables in which you provide no justification for the value you set them at other than "looking back this worked." That's why these dips still scare people.

Is anyone consistently profitable with the ES?

Well the burden of proof is on you to prove it does produce profits, especially if you feel the need to lecture others on how to trade. I can't say 1+1=3 prove me wrong. No, it is 1+1=3 here's why.... Then if you see I'm wrong you prove the contradiction implicit in the proof. You claim to have...
