    Question re: IB's beta API

According to IB's release notes, there's a new feature in API v8.0 that offers overfill protection. However, the release notes states: I'm no programmer, but it makes no mention of any changes to DDE syntax (for my Excel spreadsheet). Does anyone know what's the specific syntax change for the...

Buy Equities at Close, Sell at Open?

For ten months now. Obviously during the last half of '03 it would have been impossible not to do well, but since January things have been sideways at best, and myreturns have been equally consistent. Just this past week the Nasdaq dropped 4.4% so far and I managed a 2.44% return on my account.

Buy Equities at Close, Sell at Open?

Still researching the short side, and hopefully I'll come up with one soon. There have been days when the broader markets open lower and I still eke out a profit. Since there's so much volatility at the open I can get lucky at my ask without having to adjust downward too quickly. My goal is...

Buy Equities at Close, Sell at Open?

Good to hear some confirmation. Easy to back test. I wonder if this kind of thing can continue during an extended bear market, though I'm sure that a similar short strategy can be quite effective. To me, the best advantage is not having to stress all day long daytrading.

Buy Equities at Close, Sell at Open?

I've got my spreadsheet programmed to weed out the list, which is fairly dynamic all day until I freeze the list 5 minutes prior to close. I don't really want to go into more details than that. This thread wasn't meant so much to discuss the "choosing" strategy so much as the "execution"...

Buy Equities at Close, Sell at Open?

I'm out probably within the first 30 seconds. The profit is what the profit is. My average return is miniscule, but it's enough to average 2.5% on my account on a weekly basis. When compounded, it eventually adds up.

Buy Equities at Close, Sell at Open?

Does anyone else execute this way? I now have my entries and exits fully automated (through Excel), and I've managed fairly consistent gains (up 35% this year on my account). I find that, at least psychologically and emotionally, it's alot easier for me to be relaxed about my trades, and I...

Bush Endorses Israel's Plan on West Bank

Great post RS. A couple things I would add: Why did Arafat outright reject Barak's offer of almost 100% of occupied territories at Camp David (the closest they had come to any negotiated peace settlement), and immediately declare an intifada? Why did Mahmoud Abbas, the moderate...

    AWOL on al-Qaida:

I like how you throw out "crazed idealogue" accusations right after you pull talking points straight from the leftist anti-Bush manual. Wow, a blowhard and a hypocrite. Nice job Mack. You just reinforced my opinion about the idiot wing of the Democratic party.

    AWOL on al-Qaida:

So, rather than respond to compelling points that I bring up, you decide to ignore them and throw in another argument (e.g., John O'Neill), hoping that at some point something will stick. Well, since you have no answer to my previous post, I guess I'll just have to address yours. [/b]O'Neill...

    AWOL on al-Qaida:

Let's take a look at your "obvious" steps that could've prevented 9/11 [/b]No, it wouldn't have been difficult, but it would've resulted in the detention of only two and at most three suspects out of the nineteen, none of whom were the pilots. The Commission believes that this would not have...

    AWOL on al-Qaida:

How naive of you to think that a brief that comes out merely a month before the attacks occurred could have been acted upon in time to actually prevent the attacks. And what would waggie have done as president at the time? A potential hijacking? Well, let's do background checks on evey...

Kerry Promises to Create 10 Million Jobs

Corporate taxes contributed roughly $150 billion to federal receipts last year. Based on that number, Kerry's tax cut would inject a whopping $7.5B into the economy. If you offset that from the $12B loophole that Kerry would close in outsourcing incentives, he's actually proposing a net $4.5B...

Kerry Promises to Create 10 Million Jobs

And what grand plans does Kerry have in order to accomplish this? First, he'll eliminate incentives to outsource jobs overseas (estimated at $12B a year), and secondly, he'll lower the corporate tax rate by 2 percentage points (from 35% ro 33.25%). What the fu--? In a $10 trillion economy...

Kerry Preached War Against Iraq When Clinton Was Prez

Dude, I suggest you do a little more internet research to understand everything that's been done to fight terrorism and help soften the impact of the inherited recession. The list of achievements would fill more than a couple of pages. And as far as Bush's effectiveness up until now, I would...

Kerry Preached War Against Iraq When Clinton Was Prez

I disagree with Bush on a number of decisions (e.g., Medicare, same-sex marriages), though on balance I prefer his platform much more than Kerry's. As far as Kerry's concerned, until he comes out with some serious policy proposals on growing the economy and stopping terrorism, I can't see...

    Bush ads beginning to score

I think they're trying to hit him now that he's riding high from the primaries and before people tune off for the summer. We'll probably see a lull during the summer months as both sides regroup, then they'll come out swinging come late September.
