all very good points i appreciate your input.. obviously they beat and my otm call ratio calender would have been completely beat up.. but the ratio was more or less an experiment.. i didn't put the trade on but i have it sitting quoted in my IB account so i can see what would have happen...

there are several stratgies for every situation... its a way you expresss yourself.. if you feel volatility is being priced to highly you figure out a limited risk way to sell it.. like a butterfly.. which is basically a straddle with wing protection... plus you don't have near the margin...

well that volality of volatilty is going to be higher or lower then roll cost... thats basically how i am playing it..

my impression is that Goog moves on earnings.. my intuition tells me that its not going to be a "non event" i haven't traded the earnings in a while..

so no consideration for Goog blowing out earnings? would you never add a backspread to a butterfly?
