    Business Valuation

Your situation is a little unique given how early in the development stage your situation is. Its hard to say what a clause should like like, and to be honest it can look like whatever you want it to as long as the other party is willing to accept it. There should be certain performance metrics...

Do I need a License to teach tech analysis ?

Are they serious? I'm not so sure after reading things like this... "must be included in the 1,527th edition of the “Book of Patterns” that has made millions of retail traders rich in the last year only." Either way great entertainment.

    Business Valuation

Lots of good advice in this thread, and as you can see there is a lot of things to consider in a deal like this. Since your motivation is to grow your business and target institutional level investors, it is a great idea to bring on additional members, just as long as they bring something unique...

    Business Valuation

I work with a couple private equity firms, working for an investor in the fund, who do these exact sort of deals (buying equity interest in money managers), and it can be a good deal for both parties involved given certain circumstances. There typically are only two good reasons why a money...

Survey: PE Firms Have Slight Recruiting Advantage Over Hedge Funds

If I had the resume, background and education, and connections to be able to call my own shots career wise, I definitely would pick working for a private equity firm over a hedge fund. There are just so many more pluses in my opinion to private equity. As mentioned, skills wise its a no...

Anyone gave up trading for a living?

I gave up the dream a couple years ago. Day trading just stopped being fun for me . I just got tired of being a break even trader after so many years with the feeling of going nowhere both skills wise and financially. It was also tough to see most of my friends in my social circle develop in...

CalPERS Kicks Hedge Funds To The Curb

The hedge fund industry is full of halves and halve nots. There are a few great managers out there, but as another poster mentioned, they are all mostly closed to new investors. So you are stuck paying 2/20 for a run of the mill fund who probably will underperform the S&P. Calpers is too big to...

Advice for kid out of college....CFA or WHAT?

It all depends on what your end goal is. Do you want to become a PM or Desk Trader at a respectable firm, or do you want to trade your own capital from home? If your goal is to just be a full time independent trader, then the CFA isn't going to help you much in terms of knowledge. But in...

Most overused words and phrases in trading

I guess this is more of the most annoying words/phrases instead of simply overused. "there is no reason for this market to be going higher" "I exited the trade in after-hours at break-even, but I forgot to post the trade" "My proprietary signal is telling me its a buy/sell" "If it goes...

Job Hunting? Dig Up Those Old SAT Scores

I see this type of request all the time in the Bay Area. Many job postings ask for SAT scores along with GPA's for all sorts of career levels. I had never seen anything like it until I moved to SF. Originally I thought it was just part of the "Silicon Valley" mindset that had carried into...

Huge majority of you here are losers? Agree?

The OP is obviously a troll or has some other agenda. He signed up two days ago and already has 80 posts. A normal person who fit his self described background (4 years of failed trading), would most likely lurk for awhile and try to soak in some knowledge in an attempt to figure out why his...

Trading Shell Corporation for Taxation Purposes (35% vs 39.6%)

You will still have to pay the 35% corp tax on any income your corporation makes each year. So yes you won't be double taxed, but you are still paying taxes on money that you can't touch. And whenever you do decide to pull the money out, you will still have to pay another 39% on that same money.

Trading Shell Corporation for Taxation Purposes (35% vs 39.6%)

How are you going to justify writing off all of your personal expenses as a "business" expense? I am not an accountant, but I am pretty sure you can only write off expenses that are related to your business operations. So that would limit you to internet, telephone, and maybe rent if you...

MCD: I want to sell coffee means I cannot sell my burgers

All I was saying is that their premium coffee strategy has been in place for quite awhile, so it's hard to cite that as a cause for their lack of performance lately. McDonald's introduced the McCafe line back in 2008, and since then their stock price has almost doubled. I wouldn't attribute...

MCD has been trying to sell premium coffee for years. The McCafe menu is nothing new.

my god to start your oWn fund is it possible?

There are a few reasons. One is definitely a herd mentality, but it more has to do with risk measures. If a manager only has $75 mil in total AUM, then many institutional funds will be scared away. The reason is that most funds have risk controls that limit position size in terms of overall %...
