"Trading as a Business" quant interview, highly recommended

I don't think so - but perhaps instead of 'joining the crowd' on this thread, you could add some meat to the bone of your argument. All I see on this thread is people taking a well formed analysis and saying 'no it isn't'. Very few quants work on algorithms to predict the direction of the...

"Trading as a Business" quant interview, highly recommended

It would appear that you haven't read the posts but want to join in the debate for the hell of it. In 87, complex mathematics turned what would have been a little crash into a bloodbath. Portfolio Insurance theory is a great concept BUT not if everyone does it at the same time...

I haven't seen you make a contribution to the argument except that your post count is higher than mine. Is ET one of these cliquey sites where it's just members with lots of posts stroking each other ? How dissapointing...

I don't disagree with you in terms of the trigger. Portfolio insurance dictated that you sell your positions as the prices fall - of course it's more complex than that. In 1987, the market fell 23% in one day. Of course, there had to be a trigger for people to initiate their portfolio...

That last statement is not true. The Value at Risk at Bear Stearns was just over $60M the day before the value of Bear Stears was wiped out to the tune of $8bn. How is it my choice that people in huge financial institutions rely on flawed mathematical concepts to take huge risk ?

"Trading as a Business" quant interview, highly recommended

Your question shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue with quantitative analysis, and the current scientification of financial education. Quants are not employed to make predictions. That is a myth. Most are just well paid glorified IT guys, What quants & their ilk are guilty of...

It is beyond the scope of what we can post on this forum to discuss the complex formulas that keep causing massive crashes in the market. Should we start with 1987, Black Scholes & Portfolio insurance ? Are you in denial that the whole crash was caused by people following rules devised by...

Not at all. Even now, the idiots that devised all of these clever formulas that got everyone selling at the same time are advocating a fix with smarter formulas. The reliance on bad math is getting us into more and more trouble in the financial world. We are relying on smart guys that...

Do you realise that quants are responsible for all of the stock market crashes since 87 ? Black Scholes/Portfolio Insurance - FAIL Value At Risk - FAIL Gaussian Copula - FAIL The majority of quants are developing IT systems that can ultimately be overriden by cockney barrow boys who...

NYSE Openbook, NASDAQ Total View, Pedro Totally Confused...

I'm a TS user... but I'm thinking of changing to eSignal because of the following "Market depth from NASDAQ (Level II, TotalView, Single Book and regionals), NYSE (Open Book),. " This seems to imply that they give a much wider depth of information than just the TotalView I have now...

No - I'm not confused about that - I understand what the exchanges are. The fact is - there are a lot of NYSE stocks traded on the NASDAQ network and you see these on L2/Totalview. What is not clear is whether you are seeing the whole order book for a NYSE stock when looking at NASDAQ...

NYSE Openbook, NASDAQ Total View, Pedro Totally Confused...

Hi All For the past few months, I have been using L2 and Time and Sales to confirm my trade entries. If I see an entry based on the chart, I'll only take it with confirmation from L2/T&S. Now - I'd rather not get into a debate about dark pools & HFT making L2 useless. I use it, I know that...

    Hitting Limitations with Tradestation

Hi All I have gotten to the point in my trading strategy automation where it feels as if Tradestation is less of a fit that it should be and I am wondering if this is just me being dumb or if TS isn't the tool for me. So a little on my strategy (without spilling the beans). part 1 - a...
