Dont discount the emotional side of using real money. Paper trading is really nothing like going live. I would go as far to say its a bad idea and waste of time for a new trader, much better to just start live and trade very small lots IMHO. I dont believe you can become a successful trader...

I am long RIMM today for a short swing. I like it for a run into earnings since they blew out huge last quarter and I also think its a good candidate for a window dressing stock. Looking for 100 area by the end of the week. We'll see how it plays out. :)

Ya, and profit potential as well. My favorite time to trade options is expiration week. Delta is high, premium is low, and since they are generally more liquid the spreads are tighter.

Just because there is no clear trend on the daily charts, doesn't mean you can't find a trend on a 15min, 5min or 2min chart. Lately I have cut my size and stick to mostly day trades and occasional scalp trades for this reason even though I'm primarily a swing trader.

I agree that people who say day trading is a waste of time simply dont know what they are doing. A good trader should be able to trade multiple timeframes depending on market conditions IMHO. I am primarily a swing trader as well (2-10 days) but I also have some position trades with can last...

I agree with this for the most part. I also have a hard time trusting a bounce/rally on declining volume as well. If the participation isn't there its unlikely to hold up. The only problem is the pace of the bounce is good and the volume can start to come in at any time to give confirmation.

3 things: - Consider your position size. Using too big of lots in relation to your account size can really chew up your account if the market gets choppy and you take say 4-5 losses in a row. - learn about risk/reward ratio. For me I dont get into a trade that isn't at least 2:1 or more...

Who cares why it happens?? Plan some trade setups in advance to try and take advantage if it happens again. You'll never figure out exactly why the market does what it does and you'll drive yourself nuts trying. Just take what it gives you. just my $0.02

Right now I see a possible double top forming on the daily and the 5min chart with fairly strong resistance right above at 12 area. I also see a cup formed on the 60 min with no handle yet. The stock also closed right at the 200dma. Too risky to enter now IMO as there is no continuation...

I see NYX still in a bullish triangle that just bounced off previous support. With a clean upside breakout of the triangle I see a target of 130 area. Chart remain bullish until the lower support line in broken, next strong support after that is 70 area IMHO. cheers!

I live in Canada as well, and am well aware there is no tax on winnings. But the government does keep a portion of each ticket price for taxes.
