    Front month ITM buy/write

Hi ChrisM, When you said '...other alternatives to protect your position", I supposed you meant buying some cheap puts as insurance? "AFLACK!!" As for SSF, I am still waiting for its maturity, i.e. the volume to pick up. I haven't read nor looked into it, maybe they are trading with...

    Front month ITM buy/write

True! I should have added that my sentiment toward the market is neutral to weakly bullish. RIMM gaped up from 28 to 35 in one day, I expect some sort of retracement, so long leap now is a bit risky. I dont' like RIMM, so selling put is not preferable in my case. (maybe if...

    Date pick in Excel

In my spreadsheet, I want to enter a date in a cell, but I don't want to type in the date each time, instead, I want to have a command button that will pop up a calendar (Calendar Control?) in which I could click on the date. Is there already an Excel Add-in for this, or is there an easy way...

Crd bull spread or ratio spread?

Vega, Thanks for your interest. As mentionned in my first post, in my technical analysis, (as well as a huge open interest in the front month call 20), 20$ seems to be an important resistance for CSCO. If CSCO broke 20, there may be momentum + short cover, which will take it higher...

Crd bull spread or ratio spread?

Hello Dollars, I use the spreadsheet from www.Hoadley.net/ to calculate the greeks and the risk graph. Anyone has other spreadsheet or software to suggest? Thx Cheers!!:)

Crd bull spread or ratio spread?

Thanks for all your replies, very helpful. I just got back to my desk this morning, so didn't have time to look thru' all the suggestions for CSCO. However, last night I looked at SUNW, and notice this morning (11:40) SUNW last trade 4.15 Call Jan 4 = .65 - .70 Call Jan 5 = .30 - .35 If...

Crd bull spread or ratio spread?

Bung, Thanks for the reply. Indeed, 1.45/20 = 7.20% ROI in 5 months, I'll take that anytime. However, this means that I'll have to fork out 2K$ to buy the stock, and no parachute. With the spreads, it would cost only about 200$, and I could use the 1800$ for something else. Cheers!!:)

Crd bull spread or ratio spread?

IMHO, CSCO has an important resistance @ 20. If it managed to break it, I would be bullish on CSCO untill the next minor resistance @ around 21.50-22.00. I am thinking of 2 strategies: (all prices are taken from Bigchart, end of today, calculations are from Hoadley's option spreadsheet)...

    Lawrence Mcmillan's book

Thanks for all your replies. I should have added this in my first post : I took a 2 week end course on Derivatives, given by the Montreal Stock Exchange, therefore I have a basic understanding of the greeks, the spreads, ect... I just wonder if this book is too 'basic' for what I already...

    Classic Head & Shoulders

There is a nicer one for you. C (Citigroup) http://bigcharts.marketwatch.com/quickchart/quickchart.asp?symb=c&sid=0&o_symb=c&freq=1&time=9 Head and shoulder with lower lows MACD. You may want to wait for the price to break the neck, and short at the last call. You have to be patient...

bullish crd spread or long call

I am looking at shorting deep ITM put (strike around the next resistance) and buy ITM or ATM put . e.g. CELG paper trade buy put Jan 40 @ 5.40 sell put Jan 45 @ 8.40 credit 3.00 My calculations give me a profile of max 300$ profit vs. 200$ loss per contract vs. buying Jan Call...

Is your trading strategy more like fishing or hunting?

I think trading is like fishing, you always have a line in the water, most of the time you get small fish, or even lose your line, but from time to time, you get a big one. I read from a book somewhere, a big trader once said "the fishing is great, but the catching sucks! " Cheers!! :)

bullish crd spread or long call

I know that comparing to being long on call, bullish credit spread gives a credit, an 'insurance' in case the underlyer goes down (at the same token limiting the profit), less sensitive to price, time and volatility. A good spread should give 63/35 profit/loss. Are there anything else I missed...

Norton Antivirus and Norton Personal Firewall question

Norton AV could detect infected files in the following circumstances: If you used WinMX, Kazaa, or the like to download music, movies, files. Some website (mostly porn :D ) could also send you virus (I think via Active X, Java.....). After understanding antivirus and firewall, you...

Norton Antivirus and Norton Personal Firewall question

Norton Antivirus would tell you if the attachment of the email contains a virus or not. Just a reminder for all who haven't heard from the news yet, there is a new worm spreading around, it doesn't need to be 'openned' to infect your computer...

    AMGN spread before earning

Vega, Just FYI... AMGN having good earning last nite, I was bullish. AMGN was up before open, and began to go down @ open. I figured that the MM are pulling the stock down before buying... so I sold my put around 9:45AM @ 2.20 when AMGN was around 69.50... little did I know ..:(...
