Overwhelming Majority Of Americans Support Gov't Health Care Even If Taxes Rise

As another poster pointed out, the whole industry is subsidized by Medicare. Don't beat your chest too strongly about how you are paying your way. When Medicare blows up in 10 years or so you'll see.

You don't get it. Anyone with a debilitating illness is a "slacker" to an insurance company. They're in the business to make money. So, they only provide treatment to the level where they can make a profit. How many times have you heard the term "uninsurable" bandied about. Like I said in...

How is this different than your local HMO refusing you services it doesn't want to pay for? The problem of overspending on health care services is not limited to the UK. It's a global problem. Of course, if you don't like what your HMO offers you you can always head out to the private...

You didn't look at why there is the backlog. The funds allocated got used for something else -- they weren't "ring fenced" to provide the quote. Hard to really know what the real situation is without getting all the details. Of course, these people do have hearing aids. They just don't have the...

First off, look at the "private sector's" rate of return over the last ten years. They make the oil companies look like pikers. My insurance company was charged $20K for a simple hernia operation -- in CA. I found that I could have had the same operation done for $5K cash. The difference is...

First, universal insurance, if you will, improves public health as it covers everyone -- so your car analogy is somewhat inaccurate. Second, the ability to negotiate for virtually the entire country can't hurt. Finally, look at the profitability of the health care industry, medical device...

Take your pick: National Parks, Conservation Corps, Corps of Engineers, Interstate Highway system, CDC, TVA, Air Traffic Control, NASA, etc... There are plenty of examples of great things the government has achieved at a reasonable cost. Remember, one of the purposes of government -- or...

While I understand your preoccupation with obesity, that just shows the level of complacency the current system has engendered. Go to India or any other third world country and see what disease -- not being a pig -- does. I promise you obesity is not the reason why spending tax money on...

Not at all. You can have hybrid systems for many services if you want. Of course, then you'd have have to pay the full load for private care if everyone else opts for a universal plan. :D Frankly, from what I have heard over the years the folks in Sweden have a great deal. Finally, the...

I don't know, do you really think universal health care in the US will cause your taxes to rise to 60%? :D I don't think you understand the societal purpose of any government program be it social security, welfare, medicare, public universities, libraries, roads, dams, research, etc... if...

Personally, I think universal health care is a great idea. I had it in the UK for a few years and it was fine. If you want private health care then go pay for it as you do now. I don't think anyone else would mind. :)

Mea Culpa here... I just glanced at the Yahoo quote and didn't realize it was stale -- yesterday's close. It hasn't been particularly pretty in China but not a nuking -- so to speak -- either...

Well, Long ES was the way to go. It will be another evening of Asia watching for me. The bounce today was not at all impressive. It will be interesting to see how Asia plays.

Looks controlled to my eyes -- I do wear glasses though. :) I think things just improve overnight and I bought a little ES just to see -- with a tight stop thank you.

Well, The snowfall was beautiful but it's dark now. I've got HSI down 3.5% at the moment. That's a retrace down from the initial bump but still 1% up from the open. Let the games begin...:)
