    Learning NASDAQ level 2

I did a half day workshop at the NYC Traders Expo with Fausto Pugliese of cybertradinguniversity.com. The title was Mirror the Dominant Market Maker. It covered a lot of how to read Level II, identify the axe, etc. It was very informative and has helped me somewhat, but as has already been...

Is it E-Trade or is it me?

Stock777, "Boxed in" is the term E-Trade used. What it amounts to is that I was holding a 1,700 share long position as a longer term trade. That position is currently negative (but has not stopped out) and I am holding it as a good longer term trade. At the beginning of the day I still had...

Is it E-Trade or is it me?

Surdo, perhaps you belong to that rare group of super traders that has never made an entry error, but I assure you that even the best of us mortal traders make mistakes occassionally. Let me clarify in case you didn't take time to peruse the intial post. I did not push BUY instead of...

Is it E-Trade or is it me?

Thanks for the feedback. I had already planned on switching before today and have been researching other brokerages, but this experience will dramatically speed up the process. I'm looking at IB, CyberTrader, Fidelity, and TradeStation. I was already with E-Trade before I found this site...

Is it E-Trade or is it me?

Frustrating experience today with E-Trade. Opened a 1,000 share short position this morning as a quick scalp. Tried to cover 2 minutes later at a 20 cent profit, but accidentally shorted another 1,000 shares. No problem, I'm short 2,000 shares and the price continues down and I try cover the...

    Linda Raschke Seminar

Thanks for all of the input. I like to get as much info as possible before I put down a hunk of cash on training. I have no problem spending $500, $1,000 or even $5,000 if the material is useful to me. Most of the stuff out there is absolute crap and you could easily spend $20k - $30k on...

    Linda Raschke Seminar

She is holding a 1 day seminar at Trader's Expo in Ft. Lauderdale. Has anyone attended her 1 day seminar? When? Is it worthwhile? Thanks

    If Not Scottrade, Then Who?

Any opinions on Fidelity? Their platform looked decent at the NYC Traders Expo and includes WealthLab, but I haven't seen any reviews here.

Difference bet Prop firm, trading for bank/financial inst.

I believe Don Bright mentioned in one of the threads that a trader putting up $25K would be able to day trade $2 million. If this is correct then a captial base of $500k would allow a trader to day trade $2 million on his own. But a trader on his own keeps 100% so the correct capital base...

    island reversal in sndk?

On the subject of gaps: In candlestick analysis once a window (gap) is closed it is closed forever and is not used again for support or resistance. Another factor such as a particular pattern may make the same price support or resistance, but it is a coincidence and not attributed to the...

    island reversal in sndk?

SNDK Not an island reversal, and yes an island is western TA. From a candlestick standpoint - on the daily chart it is a frying pan bottom. The criteria for this are that the market is in a downtrend and then forms a concave pattern. The pattern is confirmed with a rising window. On...

    Are intraday Candlestick patterns useless?

Quote from maxpi: So true. I experimented once with that and I was able to change the color of a whole series of candles [up bars to down and vice versa] in a sideways market with a small time offset. If your data is giving you incorrect candlesticks, then it will also give you...

I'm looking at a new setup also. Has anyone tried XView?

    Are intraday Candlestick patterns useless?

I forgot to add that the shorter the timeframe the more important it is to wait for the candle to close before interpreting it. Whereas you can often estimate the final candle on a daily or 60 min chart before the close, a 1 min candle can change radically in 20 seconds.

    Are intraday Candlestick patterns useless?

I've read all of Steve Nison's books, have both DVD programs, and attended his seminar. Although he states that the Japanese use candlecharts primarlily on weekly and daily charts, he does go to intraday patterns to get early signals. Look at intraday charts, identify candle patterns and see...

    Van Tharp Paradox....

Kiwi, you make a good point. One shouldn't be too relaxed when trading or doing anything else where concentration is required. Being overly relaxed is sure to cause lethargic trading. The calm, clear mind achieved through meditation is a highly focused state that allows one to block out all...

    1% a day consistently: possible?

An old adage: "You can't bank a %, you can only put $ in the bank." In longer term trading or investing % return is a useful benchmark, especially if your goal is captial appreciation rather than income. As the time frame shortens and the goal is current income % return becomes less...

    Van Tharp Paradox....

I'm not into NLP, but I think it is helpful to have a clear, calm mind before beginning the trading day. I think this can best be achieved through meditation and breathing exercises. I'm interested in getting Van Tharp's Peak Performance Course. How much of it is NLP? Is the non NLP material...

    NYC Traders Expo

Does anyone know how the Tuesday Trader's Challenge turned out? I couldn't stay for Tuesday but would have liked to see some of these guys under the gun. The most frustrating thing about learning to trade is the preponderance of "Wizards", "Gurus", and "Super Star Traders" who have no idea...

What software for system creation/backtesting? (beginner trader)

I am looking for the same thing and will post if I find anything useful. I spoke with Fidelity about Wealth Lab and they said it that although the 30 day free trial version is limited, the full version has all the capabilities of TradeStation. May just be sales talk. I didn't know anything...
