    Trend-followers lost big year-to-date Jul 2017

This year has been a very good year for equity investors. I wonder what went wrong with the strategy or market for these trend-followers. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-10/quant-funds-that-chase-trends-are-this-year-s-biggest-losers

High volatility means prices go zig-zag. Wouldn't trend followers get whipsawed during zig-zags? Why do they do well during high volatility? https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-07-10/quant-funds-that-chase-trends-are-this-year-s-biggest-losers

    Brokerage recommendations for futures

As long as an IBKR futures client have been using IBKR for > 5 years and have little complaints, I would define it as good.

What would you trade if you knew the future

Not much practical use. Direct participation in the markets will probably change the future as you know it, particularly if your funds are huge.

    Brokerage recommendations for futures

Anyone here has experience using IBKR as futures broker? I use IBKR for stocks. Wonderful. Is IBKR good for futures as well?

    Consistency: the Measure of Success

The gain-to-pain ratio as mentioned in Jack Schwager's "Hedge Funds market wizards" book would be a good measure of consistency and how serious is the drawdown.

What happened to the old traders

Some old traders may be "chased away" by other forummers who doubt their sincerity in helping the newbies. There will always be people who get jealous. When a person tries to help but others insinuate they are trying to harm, the natural response is to move away. Why go through the anguish to...

Is it easier to make consistent profits with forex than stocks?

This is what attracts me about forex. There will always be a bullish currency at any one time. In contrast, when the U.S stock market crashes, global stock markets outside U.S are likely to crash even harder. When U.S sneezes, other countries catch a cold. Individual stocks usually fall in...

Is it easier to make consistent profits with forex than stocks?

May I ask which FX broker do you use for your own forex trading? Your needs are different from mine, but it will be a good start for me to do my own research. Thanks.

Is it easier to make consistent profits with forex than stocks?

I have a theory that it is easier to make consistent profits with forex than stocks. This is my reasoning. When the stock market enters into a bear market, it is hard to make money with stocks because most stocks will decline. Even stocks with good fundamentals will fall in a terrible bear...

Your experiences with being auto-liquidated by IBKR's strict risk management

"liquidate last" is not useful when the portfolio is diversified with >50 securities. A more useful feature would be "liquidate first". In fact, it is more logical too. More logical to decide on what to do with things that happen first rather than things that happen last. I wonder why IBKR does...

Your experiences with being auto-liquidated by IBKR's strict risk management

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have browsed through several threads on this forum and googled on this topic. There is a common theme among all the complaints. ALL involve option strategies. I suspect IBKR's auto-liquidation works well for long-only portfolio with liquid securities. If a...

Diary of an LSE stock trader

Hi Mo06, May I ask why the preference for LSE stocks and not U.S stocks? I am put off by the 0.5% stamp fee which is the largest stock transaction tax in the world. There are more opportunities in the U.S market (largest and most liquid stock market in the world) and commissions are so low. Do...

Your experiences with being auto-liquidated by IBKR's strict risk management

You're right but I'm not trying to prove anything. I'm a satisfied customer of IBKR. I should have said the risk of bad auto-liquidation goes up with portfolio with options, not that the auto-liquidation algo works poorly on options.

Your experiences with being auto-liquidated by IBKR's strict risk management

From the lawsuits that appeared from googling, IBKR's auto-liquidation algo works poorly on portfolios with options. ALL the lawsuits against IBKR regarding auto-liquidation has to do with options. For a simple long-only portfolio of liquid stocks, I think IBKR auto-liquidation works fine given...

Your experiences with being auto-liquidated by IBKR's strict risk management

In that thread, it was alleged that IB recomputes your positions values 24-7, in near real time, merely based on bid and ask spreads. IB takes the mid-point of the bid-ask spread. I would prefer that real price transacted be used instead of the mid-point of bid-ask spread. Is this true? This...

Your experiences with being auto-liquidated by IBKR's strict risk management

I guess this is one of the reasons hedge funds would rather use more expensive prime brokerage services to execute sophisticated strategies rather than IBKR. However, IBKR still have one of the best margin interest rates.
