Here's why layoffs are on the rise in the financial services industry

Seems like the bull market starting in 2009 is a long job-loss bull market for the financial sector. How ironic.

Realistic returns expectations of successful day trading

When most professional money managers lose to cheap and simple passive stock indices, I find 50%, let alone 500%, consistent gain even among the best traders hard to believe.

Realistic returns expectations of successful day trading

Do you know what is their drawdown when they hit a bad patch? How rare or frequent is the drawdown?

Realistic returns expectations of successful day trading

500% is exceptional year, right? What kind of market conditions are good for day traders to achieve 500%? Lots of intra-day volatility with stock indices trading up 1% and down 1%?

Realistic returns expectations of successful day trading

Often, I will hear about successful day traders on seminars or videos saying that it is possible to make consistent 20-50% gain a year regardless of market conditions, bull or bear on an account size of around USD100k. I would like to ask the professional day traders here. Is this a realistic...

Trump: China called the WH to negotiate and we will be ‘getting back to the table’

How did you know the Chinese will put out statement saying they never called White House? Are you an insider? LOL. https://www.forexlive.com/news/!/global-times-editor-china-and-us-didnt-hold-phone-talks-in-recent-days-20190826

ALL OF US WILL BE WIPED OUT if he uses the nuclear switch the way he tweets.

Trump: China called the WH to negotiate and we will be ‘getting back to the table’

Hard to trust Trump anymore. He flip flops too many times. He may be the President but trust needs to be earned. He has lost it. He is like a salesman who only talk about the good things to support his sales case.

    CNBC

I don't know whether the markets will take what President Trump says about the Japanese agricultural purchases seriously. He is like a salesman who use superlatives and like to paint unrealistic optimistic picture to bolster his case. It may work on gullible people for his past businesses but...

How are you going to transact in HK stocks if you can't maintain balance in HKD? After you sell HK stocks, where does your HKD cash go?

IB Hong Kong based accounts transferred to newly formed IB HK

What's the difference between IB AU account versus IB US account, besides losing the SPIC insurance coverage for IB AU accounts?

IB Hong Kong based accounts transferred to newly formed IB HK

Hi def, Nice to have a IB representative on this forum. Am I right that this insured bank deposit sweep program apply only to USD cash? Would other currencies be eligible for this insured bank deposit sweep program? One more question. When funds are transferred from IB U.S to local entities...

IB Hong Kong based accounts transferred to newly formed IB HK

No wonder many HK customers are unhappy. It certainly make their IB account less safe. Not unsafe, but definitely less safe. I presume that "less safe" worry apply for IB UK, IB Australia too.

IB Hong Kong based accounts transferred to newly formed IB HK

Not sure if I missed out anything. I read through this thread and I still cannot get a definitive answer as to whether U.S stocks bought under IB HK enjoy SIPC protection. This matters a lot to clients. If anyone knows, please let us know.

Managing risk of broker platform outage

I'm not that good. For the sake of discussion, for those who are really good and do not need to transfer risk to others, why join a prop firm and share your profits with others? Why not trade for yourself or start a hedge fund of your own?

Managing risk of broker platform outage

I don't know how a backup account can help since the same broker whose platform is down has to be used to close the existing open order. EDIT: Ahh ... I see how another broker helps. One can place a hedging order with the other broker to eliminate the risk of the open order placed on the lousy...

Managing risk of broker platform outage

Lower leverage will solve the problem but it's the nature of day traders to use large leverage to score meaningful gains since they can't hold the position for long. I doubt having the phone number will help because this phone number will probably be jammed when the online platform breaks...

Managing risk of broker platform outage

This thread highlights what can go wrong when broker platform breaks down. https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/trading-technologies-tt-a-career-ending-software.335159/ It can be extremely damaging for day-trading futures scalpers who uses huge leverage. After they placed highly leveraged...

What did Jesse Livermore do wrong to blow up a few times in his trading career?

One lesson to learn is that when a market participant discovers he is emotionally distressed or possibly has mental issues, he'd better steer clear from the markets. Jesse Livermore probably suffered from mental depression. Since speculation is very much a psychological game, he should have...
