    Tradeing the ES (On Topic)

[/b] This must be fate that brought me to this thread. I recently developed a system that over the past 3 days trading had a net loss of 23.5 ES points on 14 trades. The only problem was after attempting to make the system take the opposite signals, the net was still a loss of 7 points. After...

And I thought a buck was only good for long distance calling. Hardly covers the trader's overhead however.

[/b] I sure hope you were fooled and weren't trying to take part in the fooling. Either way it is a lesson to all of us to be wary. CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

    Tradeing the ES (On Topic)

I've looked at developing some scalping systems and my small experience mirrors yours. Although I was looking for something like 1-2 pts in ES instead of 2 ticks. I always thought it would be great to develop a mechanical system that grabbed ticks like the method developed by this thread's...

Just got off the IB chat. They said it would be fixed in 5-10 mins and lo and behold it is now working 5 mins later. WTG IB!!!!

That makes no sense at all. Why not ask a professional trader if he can make money trading the markets instead of asking someone who has no practical experience.

For the futures server, my experience is that the live TWS server is unavalable after the Friday night update (about 11:45) until Sunday at about 4:00 PM when it becomes avaliable again. I'm still getting nothing at 15 mins to 6:30 on the newest version and on the previous version.

    IB Login - Sunday Eve

I am hoping that by the time this message gets posted that I will be able to log in. Typically I am able to log in on Sunday night by around 4:30 (2 hours before the start of the Globex session) but 45 minutes later it is a no go. On the hunch that the new version would work (which some have...

    My dear brothers...OBTAINING AN EDGE

Placing simulated trades to get a feel for what you might actually do in RT trading is a good idea. If you are getting your head handed to you in simulated trading, what business do you have trading in RT? Shouldn't your simulated results be telling you that there is something wrong? You...

IB TWS APIs - Great until IB crippled them

Of course a good programmer can usually find a workaround for such situations.

Well I see your point about wanting precise bid/ask stops to work correctly. IB's algorithm kind of throws precision out the window. Actually implementing this in VB or VBA (as in Excel) probably wouldn't be THAT difficult for someone who knows the language. The key is that the stop order...

    I've got a secret

Money management isn't the only thing that can provide an edge. Some methods provide an improved edge, while some do nothing for the trader in the way of providing a positive expectation. Most of the methods out there are not secret, or are merely known stuff brewed upsidedown (unique...

eminis NQ and ES following their index

One futures market can typically move much faster than a bunch of stocks, just based on logistics. The futures are more volatile (leverage) than the underlying, thus they will often move quicker, and will often lead in price discovery. However there are times when the underlying will be ahead of...

    IB ActiveX

Looks like it is under Trading information (white button on left), Order information. My understanding of s2 was incorrect it seems: So from what I see it appears that the before a sell stop s2 type would trigger, the ask would need to be equal to, and then less than the stop price in...

I looked up the legend as you state Wonderduck: Order Legend G = native GTC, g = simulated GTC, L = limit order, M = native market order, m = simulated market order, R = relative order best execution, r = relative order direct, S = native stop order, s = simulated last price stop order, s2 =...

I think the bread and butter of a lot of locals is making money by taking the opposite side of orders that come into the pit or "paper". Locals have the execution edge. Locals also have the information edge: they can see who is buying and selling. Off floor traders don't have execution edge, but...

    IB ActiveX

I thought the algorithm IB uses was changed so that buy stops are triggered by the ask and sell stops are triggered by the bid. At least that's how I thought it was done with futures. Anyone care to confirm/deny?
