Bush Disapproval Rating on Iraq Exceeds 50% in Poll

All those before could have justifiably said the same thing about the foreign poilicy they opposed. By definition when you disagree with a policy, you think it is contrary to the national interest, or that some other policy would be better for the national interest. The point is that they didn't...

Bush Disapproval Rating on Iraq Exceeds 50% in Poll

Why do liberals take issue with being called liberal but conservatives take being called conservative as a badge of honor?

    moderating your own journal

One example of where this would be handy would be in creating a series of threads like the GEMS series. I was only able to create / enable those threads because I happened to be a moderator at the time.

Bush Disapproval Rating on Iraq Exceeds 50% in Poll

The sad thing is that they don't have any better ideas. Ever since Newt Gingrich shook up the congress, for the most part the Democratic party has been either reacting to the Republican agenda, or co-opting it (as Clinton did successfully in many cases during his presidency). The Democratic...

Bush Disapproval Rating on Iraq Exceeds 50% in Poll

First off, this is the generic fallacy that is commonly used by one of the two major parties in this country. It goes something like, "everyone else is doing it, so there is nothing wrong with doing it." Just because some politicians lack honor does not justify every other politician in acting...

    Bob Novak,White House Stooge

Novak isn't a journalist. He is a TV pundit. Like all the other TV pundits, he gets paid to spew his opinions and to be partisan. Crossfire is hardly a news program. He is the equivalent to an op ed piece in a newspaper, which has nothing to do with news and journalism.

Bush Disapproval Rating on Iraq Exceeds 50% in Poll

Nobody likes to see soldiers die on TV. But this particular "disapproval rating" won't affect Iraq policy. Bush didn't take a poll when he ordered the invasion of Iraq, why would he pull out based on a poll? This is just another item of interest for the roundtable pundits to debate. I bet if...

IB is down, has been for the last 20 minutes

For those of you experiencing problems, open the jts.ini file in your jts directory - the connection server is probably gw5, which has been having problems today. I'd suggest to be heard by IB staff, that you post your complaints to this forum which is actively monitored by IB...

let's be religious and discriminate against gay people!!

Gordon, Teaching against a practice is not the same thing as discriminating against those who are involved in the practice. Making these hateful blanket statements against religious people is just as bad as making hateful statements against gay people. Either way it is hate and that is the...

let's be religious and discriminate against gay people!!

Are you saying that religions that teach that "leading a homosexual lifestyle is sinful" are discriminating against gay people? I've got news for you, they also teach against adultary. Is this also wrong? Where is your outrage for the adulterors? It isn't the people that these religions are...

    Pabst Blue Ribbon

The difference in net is mostly just due to the fact that the cash markets close at 4:00 PM. Eastern, but the futures close at 4:15 Eastern. Because the price doesn't always end at 4:15 at the 4:00 level, there is a disparity. Look at the ES price at 4:00 today. It was in the vicinity of...

    moderating your own journal

I'd agree and expand this to allow members (maybe even limit it to senior or higher members) the ability to create a moderated thread that can be moderated by the thread creator, and of course the forum moderator as well. This would go a long way toward allowing individuals to present their...

Rearden, Just to clarify, nowhere did I state anything concerning any religions. The argument specifically relates to those who believe in an afterlife vs those who do not believe in the afterlife. Which flavor of belief really makes no difference. The only issue is whether non believers...

IB losing the edge in commissions!

Good point. The datafeed is consistently the fastest I've seen among data vendors - probably because full T&S is not provided but (something like .3 second) snapshots which don't lag the quotes like on the other data vendors. Some people complain about this but I like it just the way it is.

Axe, Knowing full well the implications of Pascal's Wager, I stated what will not happen: "non believers will not have the last laugh." Nowhere did I talk about proving the existence or non existance of anything or anyone. The cookie cutter argument of Pascal's wager does not apply...
