Quiet PCs, XP pro versus home version

I am looking for a very quiet desktop and wonder if anyone knows: 1) which if any of the mainstream brands, e.g., Dell, carry quiet models 2) which of the non-mainstream brands are the best buy. Also, is there any advantage to ordering XP pro versus the home version? Thanks.

    Volume in Trade Station

Comrades, I am considering moving some analysis to TS6 except for the following problem: in easy language, the reserved word "volume" only seems to include up volume for stocks during each bar (e.g., each one minute bar). Has anyone else run accross this, and if so can you answer why this is...

    Ensign vs. Amibroker

Alice, IB's feed has been reliable for execution, but if my connection went down I would lose all continuity in the time series for analysis. Unless I am mistaken, I would have no way of retrieving data from sessions where I was not connected, say travelling, as well. Currently using...

    TradeStation End of Day Data

MrX, Thanks. If I understand correctly there is no delayed data feed to power 1 min bar charts for either stocks or futures during the day. Is the intra-day data for stocks or futures available for download after the markets close...or does the end-of-day package just included daily...

    Ensign vs. Amibroker

Alice, IB is one of the brokers I use, but I can't rely on their feed for analysis and backtesting, a communication problem would screw everything up in my systems. Wally, How much of a delay is there with sierra and mytrack with intra day data?

For those using Amibroker what intra-day data provider is most cost effective? Thanks.

    TradeStation End of Day Data

Tried to find this at the TS site but could not: does anyone know if Tradestation 6 end of day data package for non-brokerage customers includes delayed intraday data (specifically tick and 1 min bars), or does it only include daily data. If it does include intra-day data what is the delay...

    Tradestation vs IB?

I have both. Regarding strictly brokerage, I have found IB always better for quote speed (stock and futures, but supposedly TS will soon have a direct quote line to speed up futures), faster exect., and cheaper. However, TS's analysis package is very good, been using some form of it for 5 years.

    A call for Monitor Recommendations

Since someone recommended Dell, thought I would mention that their 18" LCD is 25% off today only with free shipping = $487. According to the email I received you can take an additional 5% off that price today as well. Haven't used it but specs look good for the price. LCD's I like, both...

DEF: Ihope you got a bonus

BigEd, First, let me say that I leave providers based on principle, e.g., I will never purchase anything from Amazon.com, regardless of the price differential, based on the insulting client service I have consistently received and which is purposely built into the system. Next, I believe...

Anyone else have bad US equity options quotes from IB??

Is IB's decision related to exchanges posting bids or offers to capture flow, and then not executing at the posted prices when someone tries to hit a bid or lift an offer? Can't tell you the number of times in the past that I have tried to smack something at Philly with no excecution, which...

Einstein's puzzle: Can you sovle it?

Read the original since I knew one of the Market Wiz-bangs, but not the second. Guess it's not too surprising though that it made the rounds at trading desks. I'm surprised Def....kind of had you pegged as a nice guy. You should switch from your first choice to the remaining closed...

Einstein's puzzle: Can you sovle it?

ML, I'll hold off on the answer, but consider that you have only accounted for 83% of the 100% probability that one of the two remaining doors hides the car (which we know for certain ;0) . O.

Einstein's puzzle: Can you sovle it?

Thanks for the diversion ML. I wondered whether anyone tried and successfully solved the problem in their head, without the aid of paper or excell. Also, here is an interesting one combining probability and logic that I and other traders talked about a few years ago. The answer is fairly...

    Best options broker?

How do Think or Swim and Options Express route options orders? Is the trader able to route to specific exchanges and if so is there an added charge to use this functionality? I use and like IB for some options trades, but it is worth noting that traders pay nearly double to route to a specific...

    Does low-noise system exist?

While I have used 5 - 10 Dell computers over the past 10 years for trading, contrary to others, I can't recommend them based on how quite they are. My Dell P4's are relatively loud. Sytems and parts specifically designed for quite operation can be found at: http://www.endpcnoise.com/ O.

    Lind Waldock

42, From your second link, do you know what the category "security futures" refers to (1.99/side)? I suspect it might include pit traded fixed income securities and equity indices, but would like to confirm. Already have had an email in to TS for several days regarding a software matter so...

    Lind Waldock

Thanks FX and RTS. Do either of you know what the "security futures" category refers to, maybe pit traded bonds, S&P, etc? If so, 1.99/side seems an attractive rate for the large S&P contract. O.
