Question Regarding West Texas vs. Brent Spread

Thanks for the interesting replies, all. I meant 1.10 last week and up to 1.40 this week by the way, not 0.10 and 0.40 like I said. I understand that there are reasons why there is a spread -- my question was more along the lines of why did the spread increase this week? The Gulf of...

Question Regarding West Texas vs. Brent Spread

I wonder if someone could educate me. What are the factors that go into the spread between the NYMEX and the IPE crude contracts? Last week on the August contract the spread never went much above 10 cents, while today it has been as much as 40 cents at times. Thanks!

    EmiNY energy switch to Clearport

I've been trading QM on IB/Clearport since Sunday night. There were some glitches with the quotes in the first hour or so, but has been working well since then. I haven't noticed any difference from the Globex trading.

    Samsung 915n

I received a Samsung 213T from Newegg yesterday. I like it so much I just bought another one today. Very nice monitor, and less than 540 bucks with the rebate. That new huge Samsung flat screen factory I've been reading about must have come on line!

Are there any Jim Rogers' fans here?

Cakulev, Thanks for the link! That is a very good interview. I've been thinking of how to handle my IRA in a low stress way so it doesn't interfere with my short term bread and butter trading. Averaging into a commodity mutual fund and holding for a long time has some appeal...

Real Estate is dying? Investment-wise what is the next Asset Class Du Jour?

Yeah, they aren't buying U.S. bonds for our own good. They are doing it to keep the game going: $/Yuan, exports to U.S, etc. etc. etc. It has been well reported that they, like Japan, were buying enormous amounts of Treasury securiities. I didn't know, however, that they were also...

Real Estate is dying? Investment-wise what is the next Asset Class Du Jour?

I have been following this thread with interest. Here is an excerpt from a new article I just read in the NY Times online addition, entitled "Dollar's Fall Tests Nerve of Asia's Central Bankers": "In contrast to Japan, China's money managers, while selling little of their existing Treasury...

    Blury Second Monitor

Mr. X, Sir: Unfortunately, that is just the way it is with that card. I have a few so I know, and have also heard about it from others too. One option is to get a cheap Radeon 7500 PCI card for your second monitor. Then you'll also have a few DVI ports available for more monitors later.

Money Management - Percentage Risk Question

Opmtrader, Yes, your inclination is right, the second interpretation is "correct". By correct, I mean that the general concept of risking a small amount on each trade (say 1/2 to 2%) and taking a larger risk on the total portfolio, is a common proven technique. Ed Seykota coined the term...
