What are realistic goals for an 18-year old swing/position trader?

Thank you for your replies. I have spent my time doing a variety of things, mainly getting information a mile wide and several inches deep in the market. I have read all the tutorials except the ones on real estate on investopedia.com, and the rest on thismatter.com that the book didn't cover...

Is it better to swing trade options near expiration or far from expiration?

I'll try splitting half the number of contracts I usually buy, then splitting half that into front month and the next month. I'll track my results closely, I always do. I'm not interested in LEAPs, they just wouldn't make any sense to swing. Thanks for your help.

Is it better to swing trade options near expiration or far from expiration?

Wow, thank you all for your responses! I think I may start by trading options that are one back in expiration, while executing the same trades in a paper account that are front month. As long as I start out doing only a small number of trades, I think I can track my results better while I...

Which brokerages can I use to trade index futures?

Thank you for your answer. I'm looking at maybe one or two round turns per day, starting maybe with only one of the Mini Dows at a time. However, I'm looking to paper trade first, but I have not found this either. Does tradestation provide paper trading?

Is it better to swing trade options near expiration or far from expiration?

I have been conservatively trading stocks and am relatively new at trading options. Is it better to trade ones near expiration, which would be cheaper but have a greater evaporation rate of time value? Or, would the options farther out be better since they would not lose as much to time value...

I am currently trading stocks and options with TradeKing, but I want to begin trading index futures (they don't offer any futures). Where can I do this?

What are realistic goals for an 18-year old swing/position trader?

I meant $5 per entry and exit for a total of $10 - so it would be about .66%. I will likely start with swing-position and then move toward swing to get around this a bit. Taxes are my main concern, as I have figured it to be the difference between 11,000 and the 75,000 if I would have to pay...

What are realistic goals for an 18-year old swing/position trader?

I have been studying the market for what I estimate to be around 300-400 hours in the past 7 months. I am opening my trading account in the next few weeks, after my last sessions of paper trading. I will have four years of college during which I plan to grow my trading account, and be trading...

    Logarithmic or Linear Charts?

Which are better for trading? I generally use the logarithmic charts because it makes more sense for % gains/losses and price objectivity. But, the case can be made that regular investors rely more on price changes rather than percentage changes, and also look at linear charts when making...

What free charting service updates candlesticks the fastest?

I usually use yahoo finance, but they take forever to update their candlesticks after the day's close. What free sites do this, and are there any pay sites that offer enough that make it worth my time?

What online brokers host trading systems?

Thank you for your reply. My automated system will be swing trading stocks or options for periods of days to two weeks maximum. I do plan on having several trades at a time, but I would place more importance on stock analysis rather than quick execution. However, latency must be reasonable.

What online brokers host trading systems?

I am developing my own trading system, and would like an online broker that can host the system without any manual buy/sell orders - everything automated. Which ones offer this? Thank you.
