Trading on your own vs a proprietary partnership

Barry, I think it would depend on what you are planning to trade and the style you're going to employ. From what I have read/heard, it is extremely difficult to make money trading options OFF-FLOOR. If you're planning to daytrade equities for a living, there are many advantages to...

    power trading

Does anyone have any knowledge of real-time power trading? I would think that it might be similar to trading the financial markets. I'm sure they sit in front of a computer screen and stare at bid-ask of electricity, hydro, etc. Or there might be large power companies that make markets over...

    Don's Openings Pt. 2

Don, Are you a little more reluctant to buy gap downs as opposed to shorting gap ups? Or do you give them equal weight? It would seem like there would be a lot more risk trading a gap down, (panic sellers want out and will keep hitting the bid on the way down once the stock opens). Ax

    ETG Revisited

With all the pump & dump schemes initiated in chatrooms by 16-year old kids in the past few years, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if regulators watched this board closely. And the fact that there is profitable professional traders that hang out on this board, probably peaks their interest...

    Lost

OOoouuuccchhh!!! eek: LOL!: Personally, I think "1-post Jeannette" is actually a snakeoil salesman in disguise getting to peddle his trading system to Elite members. Its not like this hasn't happened before on this site. But I could be wrong. ax

    Lost

I guess it depends on your time frame. I just think the guys in the pit/exchange floor represent the purest form of trading. Their are still wiley veterans down on the floor that pound out cash every day. They don't analyze charts. They just read the tape like they have been for the last 40...

    Lost

That is how Jesse Livermore did it, and its stood the test of time. I believe tape reading and feeling out the market is the way to go. How many guys do you think read charts on the floor of the exchange and in the S&P pit??? Just a thought. :D AX

Do yourself a favor. Go down to the local casino. Place all of the money you intended to waste on a daytrading stock-picking service onto "00" on the roulette wheel. Once you have lost all your $$$, kick yourself in the balls and call it even. You will be better off because at least...

User Names On Elitetrader (a fun thread)

My college golf coach gave me both of these nicknames. After I "hacked" or "chopped" (terminology for playing bad golf) , in a tournament, he started calling me Axe. Then in my sophmore year because of my DeNiro-like nose, he started calling me Hawk. This caught on with the team so...

    Learning to trade by scalping?

First of all, if you're asking this question, it probably means you're a retail trader trading from home in which you have no chance of scalping successfully against a professional on the floor or at a prop firm. Secondly, to go from go from scalping to swing trading would be a mistake. The...

    Canadian Traders

Maybe I had it wrong. Maybe it was $3.75 CDN per gallon. I know it was over $3. I'm pretty sure gas is going to more expense in large Ontario cities as opposed to Alberta. I think at the time it something like $2.05 per gallon in Michigan. :)
