Ryan, Have you or did you consider locking in the Put Side profit using a butterfly? The suggestion here allows you to lock in a profit... on the Volatility spike from Monday.... and then either hold for a chance at a huge return (price settling within your fly) or adjust back into a...

It was interesting to watch back month prices increase while front months (VIX) went to new lows. These prices you pointed out show an excellent example why following monthly skews, (front month/back month), is important.... especially in Diagonals. There were some nice profits to be...

don & mav, Most people tuning it will probably be well versed at traditional retail margin option strategies. I think it would be nice to show or explain how 'haircut' margin be most effeciently be used... 1. What option strategies can 'haircut' margin most effectively produce...

My miss quote... I was up 5K on $56,600, not $28,300 in margin.... closed out Tuesday for a 7.6% return... half of which came from the 'Tent Pole' position between the diagonal strikes. This VEGA drain... or strain, as you may have it, sure challenges the Double Diagonal.... just waiting...

Our investment club has three people who just primarily trade STRADDLEs. They do quite well, although the research and day to day maintenance is overwhelming. Does anyone here trade STRADDLEs? My thoughts are to form a new ET Straddles thread and share all the research information...

Just to add.... haircut doesn't do much for credit spreads... and helps a little in diagonals. We're really looking into better capital uses of haircut margin.... ie, backspreads, straddles. M~

RUT is paying off better than SPX... and has been for the past several months. Although RUT moves greater intra-day, the overall band movement is narrower than the SPX on a percentage basis.... so this falls right into play with diagonals. Just hoping for some huge VEGA spike! Been waiting...

Mark summed it up well. We traditionally looked at return on risk... or depending on the strategy, return on margin. I actually look at three profiles now. Return on Risk, Return on Margin, and with HairCut, we're getting a flavor for Return on Capital. An entirely different...

TS, Many different approaches.... I've been playing around with selling back month positions to purchase front month curvature... then playing the swings to capture DELTA movement. It does present emotional risk... but allows for breakout protection. M~

Gathering gamma curvature long before the outbreak to the up or down side.... would cure your problem. Now, getting that curvature will require trading skills.... not THETA skills. M~

Rally, Just trying to exploit the opportunities 'haircut' may open up... My personal trading style has been THETA oriented.... in the past, but 'haircut margin' is opening up some very interesting possibilities. Straddles/strangles/backspreads.... etc. Your thoughts appreciated. M~
