"GM bankruptcy not a remote possibility"

Today, S&P cut GM's corporate credit rating two notches to single-B. Considering that downgrade, I suspect that the "not a remote possibility" language is referring to increasing perceived risk in GM. from...

    Account Security.

I think it is by title. E.g., an account in your name and a separate IRA account would each be allowed separate SIPC coverage. Two accounts in your name would be combined for purposes of determining your coverage.

    Undercapitalization

Trading less that $25K, a trader will not meet the threshold for being a Pattern Day Trader. Consequently, the trader will not be severly limitied on how often he/she can buy and sell the same stock. If that does not matter (e.g., if the trader is only focusing on options), then that's OK.

Bear market ahead and 14 more years of range trading? The next weeks will show!

Buffet's Fortune article (continued): The U.S. Never Stopped Growing Per capita GNP gains crept in the 20th century's early years. But if you think of the U.S. as a stock, it was overall one helluva mover. Year 20th-Century growth in per capita GNP (constant dollars) 1900-10 29%...

Bear market ahead and 14 more years of range trading? The next weeks will show!

It's not 14 years. It's 17. See a copy of Warren Buffet's Fortune article from 2001 below: WARREN BUFFETT ON THE STOCK MARKET FORTUNE Thursday, December 6, 2001 By Carol Loomis From Fortune Magazine: "Two years ago, following a July 1999 speech by Warren Buffett, chairman of...

    Debt

No line as long as a lender will lend. See S&P ratings definitions here: http://www2.standardandpoors.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=sp/Page/FixedIncomeRatingsCriteriaPg&r=1&l=EN&b=2 Even companies that are rated CCC can borrow sometimes, although security will often be required.

    this is VERY misleading

I'd rather pay attention to an index with 500 constituents. It is more representative.

    CMT + CFA = Job ?

I agree. Choose one and do that. CFA I is marketable, but mainly for fundamental equity or fixed research. CMT is less marketable, IMHO, but if that is what you want to do, do it.

    Refco Account Security

When I read the WSJ article, I do not conclude that the $400MM of losses originated at Refco LLC. The origin was not identified. Maybe it was at Refco LLC, maybe at Refco Capital Markets, which I thought (?) provided prime broker functions, or at a different sub. In a bankrutpcy court, the...
