I took my lumps on the short calls.

yeah, look at that ratio. I was watching it and decided to take the rest of the day off.

    Calculating The Greeks

I'm still baffled. Help me by explaining why one would want to use Historical in your greek equation? Vol is expressed in price, so if you're trying to use HV vs IV to determine the price of an option you're really just saying that the option is over or under priced according to the most...

    Calculating The Greeks

Vols come out last so whatever numbers you input, that will be your output.

    I went long puts.

Puts are REALLY cheap at the moment (even though skew is building)

    Implied Distribution from Skew

JS - Is is correct that the exercise of modeling is more frequently used by firms such as MMs which are required to hold some book into expiration? As an advanced retail trader, I've been studying the skew and distribution to better understand market action, however when it comes down to...

    I went long puts.

Puts are cheap at the moment... so are calls. If you expect the move to go into the tails you'll be better off buying puts, but you'll want to exit them as soon as vols get pumped.

Thanks DMO. I'm not terribly interested in getting a job, but anyone care to report their experience with CTC?

Seen a couple demos of Sheridan's software. Looks a lot less Buggy than OptionVue. I used OV for a trial period and it drove me to insanity with back testing data gaps, and system oddities. In spite of that, I hear that OV 6 is much improved. Sheridan's software is much better priced and...

    prop firm/trading group?

Sounds like you're marching through a standard progressive learning process. If i were hiring traders to use my capital I would look for three things: 1) Consistency of returns 2) Size of max drawdowns in relation to typical returns, how does this statically reflect my capital placed in...

    The problem with short gamma

If there were continuos strikes and perfect dynamic hedging, we would either all be out of business, or trading long gamma.

    prop firm/trading group?

I agree, and am not doubting your idea. I just know that nothing is so real as having real money on the line, and consequently getting real experience. Some personalities are able to make believe with their paper money accounts, for me that was a chore - but so is the expense of learning... ;D...

    prop firm/trading group?

Also, and I don't mean to be a boob, but I think it's reasonable to spend 25K in losses on your trading education, and if someone told me they spend 100K, that would not a major surprise. It's a business, and if you need to sink 100K to get it going, fine, that's probably a hell of a lot...

    prop firm/trading group?

I use a PM retail account and it is fine. You can use more that 500K, just distribute your trades around to different accounts, I think you should still be covered.
