This is why people lose money in the stock market. They are afraid to buy stocks that are going up, and afraid to short them when they are going down. They always THINK they missed the move because they use THEIR logic. Unfortunately for them, THEIR logic has nothing to do with market movement.

The market had a huge run up over a long period of years. The nasdaq is still 1/2 of what it was in 2000. We are not even close to the same situation we were in 1999.

That is not a standard p&F pattern. Stockcharts.com scans for most of the normal p&f patterns. This won't help you with day trading, but it will certainly help you with swing trading.

The ones that do breakout without a retrace create sufficient enough profit to make up for their less frequent occurrences. Momentum works both ways, not just to the downside.

I like to buy half my position on a breakout, and half on the retrace, if there is one. If you don't enter at 80 you take the risk that there won't be a pullback. I've been burned too many times waiting for that pullback that doesn't retrace anywhere near the breakout price.
