Crypto Crash Survivors Could Become Tomorrow’s Amazons, Bank of England Says

This is not the first time interest rates have been held very low for an extended period of time. The period during and after WWII was very similar. No matter how mad you think the current financial system is, I wouldn't bet against it just carrying on. As Specterx says, many have been...

UK - gaining exposure to BTC in a SIPP?

I think it was a bit of a knee jerk reaction from the UK authorities to stop retail investors buying crypto derivative ETFs. No doubt they thought they were protecting people from themselves but the reality is there are a multitude of ways to blow your money in the markets. There are many...

UK - gaining exposure to BTC in a SIPP?

I think the VanEck DAGB ETF might be the best option. At least it offers a bit of diversification compared to holding individual stocks like MSTR or COIN. Top 10 holdings: SQUARE...........................................9.44% SILVERGATE CAPITAL CORP................8.78%...

Crypto Crash Survivors Could Become Tomorrow’s Amazons, Bank of England Says

To me, it's not a currency. And nor is it a store of value, or a hedge against anything. It's a speculative thing. Worth a punt with money you can afford to lose. Stick 1% of your investment portfolio in it, and what's the worse that can happen? It's asymmetric, so the best that can happen is...

UK - gaining exposure to BTC in a SIPP?

Yes but they're probably banned for UK retail investors. I do find it funny that we're not allowed to buy Bitcoin ETFs but we can still buy riskier stocks like MSTR.

UK - gaining exposure to BTC in a SIPP?

(This is a UK tax-free pension account similar to 401k) It's never been possible to buy BTC directly in a SIPP, and a couple of years ago the UK financial authorities banned retail investors from buying crypto derivatives such as ETFs like XBT Bitcoin tracker. I assume BITO and GBTC can't be...

    Bitcoin failed to deliver.

Bitcoin certainly seems to polarize opinion (love it or hate it). Personally, I can't get that bothered about it. It's just another thing to trade or invest in. Yes, there are scams, but the financial world has always been plagued by them. And yes, most crypto stuff is extremely risky. But if...

Yes but Gold doesn't have the potential to go up thousands of percent. :D

Bitcoin bottom here at 20k....? (June 19th)

Out of interest, I pulled up a few charts. GBTC is definitely the closest proxy. BTC vs GBTC https://www.google.com/finance/quote/BTC-USD?sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjVuaCp27z4AhXiMuwKHf4LB-sQ-fUHegQIARAV&comparison=OTCMKTS%3AGBTC&window=1Y BTC vs COIN...

Bitcoin bottom here at 20k....? (June 19th)

GBTC is very close. It peaked on Nov 9 the same as BTC, and has fallen 75% which is about the same. Not sure about the others you mention but I wouldn't expect them to be as closely correlated because they're not BTC investment vehicles like GBTC. I suppose MSTR is another option. It's like a...

    Guess the bottom

Sorry if you were expecting pictures of butts rather than "buttcoin". :D Anyway FWIW, my guess is $10k, which would make it just slightly worse than the 2018 bear market drawdown. And it's a psychological round number.

    Crypto Macro Trends for 2022

I don't own any crypto but if I was going to buy any it would only be Bitcoin. I don't see any point in diversifying in this space. That's what late stage bull markets do. They suck in people who'd either been previously sceptical or ambivalent. It happened to me with precious metals in the...

    Who and Why Borrow Bitcoin?

Anything offering a double-digit interest rate should ring alarm bells. Especially, when the risk-free rate of return has been so low for many years.

    Crypto Macro Trends for 2022

That sounds like hopeful thinking. I know because I've indulged in that. What was your average buy price of Bitcoin? Did you invest a large sum?

Not just a normal Bitcoin bear market?

If I was going to invest in crypto, it would only be btc. It's the least risky of the bunch.

Nothing much is a hedge against the Fed slamming the brakes on.

Not just a normal Bitcoin bear market?

Yes but losing 20% purchasing power over 2 years is better than losing 50% or 90% in bombed out assets. If you know something that is guaranteed to beat inflation over the next couple of years, I'm all ears.
