    InteractiveBrokers, Oh My!

Sub-90ms is basically instantaneous unless you are doing some pretty specialized automated trading.

    otcbb at IB

How would they execute it if there is no offer to take? I doubt TMBR makes markets in OTCBB stocks. Presumably, if the order shows it is live, it was sent to NITE, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for them to work the order manually unless it is significantly mis-priced. You'd probably do...

    Busting trades how specifically?

How could it trade through your price if the exchange was down? Whenever there is a trading disruption, you need to know exactly what happens with pending orders (usually by calling your broker). In general, if there are long outages, I'd expect them to either cancel all orders, or to do a...

Stocks Pairs trade/ spread trade, through Interactivebrokers

    1. Just to be clear, you are using the bid for the short and the ask for the buy in determining that your order should be executed, right? That is, if it's: Ticker Bid-Ask BidSizexAskSize AMD 20.50-20.55 10x10 INTC 17.45-17.50 10x10 Sell AMD/Buy INTC needs a spread of $3.00 or less to be...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

Don't know if I mentioned this before... Since the Reg. SHO pilot is going to be with us for at least another year, add the A/B/C category to the "contract details" page (at www.interactivebrokers.co.uk/contract_info/... ), preferably right below the "Shortable" item.

    eSignal--ARCA book $155/mo!

As usual, it seems nobody bothered to verify before jumping on the bandwagon. I see no evidence of those charges in the current price list on the web site. Ask yourself why they would charge $155 (which almost nobody would pay) instead of the actual pass-through rate. Does it make any sense...

    obvious scam

This sort of thing comes up all the time with "soft" currencies. The government usually fires back at the speculators by making it unlawful to bring any significant amount of the "soft" currency into or out of the country, or just creating a "new Dinar" with a declared exchange rate against...

Automated trading options with IB or other firms - Any advice or comments?

That addresses partial fills vs. ticket charges. I don't know if MBT charges for cancels/modifys, which is a different issue. Also, it does not address the pacing/MM restrictions, which are exchange rules. My point is that a strategy like trying to sit on the bid and offer, making markets...

Someone tell me about the realities of intraday trading

It depends on whether you are following the crowd or not. If you're trying to buy a breakout signal that 1000 other people are buying, you'll get a lot of slippage. If you're selling a signal that 1000 others are buying, you might actually get improvement instead.

Automated trading options with IB or other firms - Any advice or comments?

Biggest obstacle to some strategies is the cancel/modify fees and pacing/MM restrictions.

Is someone trying to rip off my IB account?

I didn't get such an email. If it has your correct account number, it obviously cannot be a phishing attack.

    Series 7 Back Ground Check

If you don't want to ask your propspective firm's compliance officer, call NASDR and ask them. IIRC, you don't have to disclose infractions, for example, so there is obviously some level of crime below which they do not care.

IB passes $3 billion in liabilities in q2 2006

Customers who care, though, would already know and see this without having to read about it here. Also, growth in customer assets is not necessarily indicative of anything. For example, I currently have an account with a broker with a balance sheet so small, it's scary. Yet, it's worth the risk...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

Quote from cscott: 1. I'd like my balance or Net Liquidation Value shown at the top right of TWS. In recent versions, there's a feature called something like "dashboard", which docks below the toolbar in TWS, and can be configured to contain many different items, including what you mentioned.

IB Made an Error. Will They Fix It?

Michael: What you're saying generally makes sense as far as the cash value, but as OT said, it's hard to know how the cash got depleted without the details of exactly what positions were put on and when. In particular, since futures and FOPs are MTM at each closing, that cash value will move...

IB Made an Error. Will They Fix It?

Let me take a whack it it... As others have said, taking off one leg of a spread generally results in increased margin requirements*. So, it is possible to leg into a spread incrementally, but you then have to leg out of it incrementally too. In the following, I'm talking about initial...
